Morgan? Is this chavvy?

Always liked this name - in my mind I think of Morgan Le Fay & I've always thought of it as a bit ethereal. Just noticed though that Bianca on Eastenders has a daughter called this. I had it in mind for my next DD due Jan but this is making me reconsider. Don't usually watch EE -was at my mum's- & have only ever met one Morgan before. Has it become chav?

My son is called Morgan, sod the lot of you that think it's "Chav".

He's almost 5 btw and the blonde boy on my profile, one of the sweetest little boys you'll ever meet. He was totally loved by his pre-school teachers and always got glowing reports. He started reception last week.

He looks gorgeous JodieG1.

These name threads do actually really hurt peopel unfortunately.

I would be hurt if someone caled my DC's names chav.

That's why I called them Cordelia and Ranulph.

Brightfield · 07/09/2008 22:28

He's lovely Jodie. It's a great name for a boy, strong and traditional.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2008 22:29

Interesting that the 2 "is this name chavvy" threads that have appeared in active convos today are by 1st time posters

JodieG1 · 07/09/2008 22:33

Thank you Bringbackmybonnietome and Brightfield

Or namechangers wanting to protect their potentially named LOs.

My SIL chose the name whilst pregnant for either a boy or girl. She had DD and she is a Morgan and it suits her. I personally thought it was a boys name though but I dont think its too chavvy

Megglevache · 08/09/2008 14:13

I know a 13 vyear old Morgan who is a twin, she is so lovely, I always associate that name with a girl.

tarantula · 08/09/2008 14:35

I think Morgan is a lovely name. Generally think of it as a boys name as have a cousin Morgan. Not sure why people think it is only a surname, very strange that. I have always thought of it as a traditional Welsh name myself, much used in the Cadfael books if I recall.

But then maybe I'm a chav myself as we have the same crockery as someone on EE (dp pointed it out to me). Oh the shame......

fortyplus · 08/09/2008 14:45

If you're not a chav then no one will think that Morgan is chavvy.

I think so.

I'd rather go with Morganna

or meredith, but the yanks have spoilt that nice Welsh one for me...

broodymom · 09/09/2008 16:45

my dd is Morgan and she really suits her name, and the name came to us from our boat which was named "morgana" and we are certainly not "chavvs" what a sh*t expression anyway call your child what you want and what you feel comfortable with.
