Poppy?

It's only for a middle name anyway. We were all decided but now DP wants to change it to this. I wasn't keen but my Mum mentioned quite by chance how much she loved it and that has made it more attractive to me I think it's quite cute but I'm wondering if it's a bit popular/hackneyed (doesn't really matter overly for a middle name though).

Babyinbelly --my dd has blonde curly ringlets and big blue eyes

LadyThompson · 28/08/2008 16:49

Yeah, I think of Poppies being dark as well. Dunno why. I am very fair but DP isn't and whenever I think about DD-to-be, I think of her being dark (I will probably be COMPLETELY wrong).

the only poppy we know has gorgeous curly strawberry blond hair. she is very sweet.

i do think of it as a little girls' name though... perhaps that will change as this generation of poppies grow up?

babyinbelly · 28/08/2008 17:05

Dont know why I think this. It's just the image that comes to mine when I think of the name poppy.

Maybe because I know a black labrador called poppy!

lollipopmother · 28/08/2008 17:07

I like Poppy and I disagree about it only being a young persons name, I think it'd suit a blue rinser as well!

LadyThompson · 28/08/2008 17:10

LOL, babyinbelly. I am trying to FORGET about the millions of pets called Poppy!

lollipopmother · 28/08/2008 17:14

I'm sure Babyinbelly just misheard - the lab is called Puppy and Poppy is safe!

LadyThompson · 28/08/2008 17:16

It's ok, it's funny!

But there are hundreds of childen called megan, molly, sophie etc and hundreds of pets called this as well and they are still perfectly fine as peoples names. My mum had a dog called sarah!

I used to work in a vets where there was a dog called heather and the owners surname was Smith. Nothing wrong with that at all except the vet was also called heather smith!

Whatever you call your child there will always be an animal with the same name.

Poppy is an excellent childs name regardless. I think it would be good as a first name let alone a middle name. What is the first name btw?

LadyThompson · 28/08/2008 17:30

Well...the first name is....

Octavia, so I think I am safe on the pet score Not everyone's cup of tea I am sure, but I love it.

My DD is a Poppy and she could be nothing else...

And trust me, if she wants to be a Dr or the Prime Minister or the Head of ICI, she will be - she will do anything she likes...!!

BellaBear · 28/08/2008 17:33

Really like it but couldn't use it as surname is Cox!

CuckooSplodgeandTubs · 28/08/2008 17:33

I really like it. I know you mean it for a mn, but Penelope with Poppy for short could work. Or Polly.

CuckooSplodgeandTubs · 28/08/2008 17:34

Octavia is becoming so popular where I live. I can't throw a stone without hitting an Octavia. What is going on?

LadyThompson · 28/08/2008 17:36

I find that very surprising, Cuckoo, as I have never met or heard of one. Where do you live? Still think it's not going to catch on as a pet name though...

Interesting combo. I think it is really nice. octavia poppy is better then octavia florence.

LadyThompson · 28/08/2008 17:54

She's going to be

Octavia Something Alice, actually

cos Alice is my much missed Granny's name.

nowirehangers · 28/08/2008 18:05

Poppy is very pretty, in fact I prefer it to Octavia - if it's a middle name it really doesn't matter indulge yourself

Imnotok · 28/08/2008 18:45

LT I have an Alice too

UmSami · 28/08/2008 18:49

Without hearing the whole name i'd have voted poppy...but...Octavia Florence Alice is just beautiful...it's got my vote (and my 2.5 yr old likes 'fworence' too!).
PS My beloved Gran's name was Alice too and you're right it's lovely!

dinkymum · 28/08/2008 18:50

I lve the name Poppy and its on my list if I have another dd.

pamelat · 28/08/2008 18:51

I love the name Poppy but we were worried our DD would not be treated seriously.

We went for the middle name of Florence! My most favourite name in the world. We compromised on a first name of Ella.

My DH didnt like Florence but let me have it as a middle name

schneebly · 28/08/2008 18:51

I love Poppy Had a Poppy at After School Club where I worked and she was lovely so it hasn't put me off!

LadyThompson · 28/08/2008 18:52

Thank you UmSami! It's my first so I'm very excited, and we couldn't seem to stop at two names
