Poppy?

It's only for a middle name anyway. We were all decided but now DP wants to change it to this. I wasn't keen but my Mum mentioned quite by chance how much she loved it and that has made it more attractive to me I think it's quite cute but I'm wondering if it's a bit popular/hackneyed (doesn't really matter overly for a middle name though).

Poppy is beautiful.

I know 3 year old twins called Poppy & Daisy

DisenchantedPlusBump · 28/08/2008 18:58

Love, love , love it!

muminthecity · 28/08/2008 21:53

I love it, it was on my list, along with Daisy, Lily and Rosie. I love cutesy girly names - I picked Daisy in the end, as she just looked like a Daisy to me

love it love it love it!

LadyThompson, I would prefer not to say where I live, but don't worry, I was 90% joking. I know of only two. Both sets of parents were appalled to discover their Octavia wasn't the only one we knew (Didn't rub their noses in it, but one is my DD's second cousin and another a friend's dd.)

So, personally, I feel its popularity is increasing. Could well be a statistical anomaly or a blip or whatever they call it!

Poppy is gorgeous but I wouldn't want just Poppy on my BC. Penelope with Poppy for short was something I considered seriously for my own dd.

I love Poppy and wanted it for DD1. DH said no sadly. Even when I pleaded. Not even for a middle name. Boo
I think its nice, but due to its increased popularity I reckon its probably best as a middle name these days. I now know quite a few Poppy's but no others with my DD1's name.

I love the name Poppy.

Not fussed on Florence.

LadyThompson · 29/08/2008 15:02

Ha ha, thanks Cuckoo, I was imagining some enclave, possibly in SW London, where the entire female baby population was called Octavia...I'm not fussed if there are a few around, I just hoped she'd be the only one in her class!

There's a really great site somewhere, that people link sometimes, where you can check the popularity of names that are way outside the top 100, and high climbers! Wish I could remember it. But the Poppy and Florence middle name debate will be decided by DP as that one is 'his' name to pick and those are the two he likes the best (so democratic, we are!)

love it

That national trust site, with the yellow mister man is quite good. You enter your post code and it tells you how popular a name is nationally, and in your area. I had great fun playing with it. Names like Flora are in the top 25 in SW and not even in the top 200 nationally. So it's definitely worth a look.

Maybe somebody with a good memory could dig out the site?!

CuckooSplodgeandTubs · 29/08/2008 15:29

There is Bounty.com, but it is really inaccurate imo. When I had my dc2, the Bounty woman visibly smirked when I said my son's name, so I had an hormonal 'ache' and I frostily told her I was too sleepy to fill in her form. (I felt I could managed without a bag of tat).

I love Poppy. I was desperate to call DD Poppy but DH wouldn't have it. Instead we have a Tilly but I've always regretted not trying to persuade DH harder! I'm pregnant again so laying the groundwork for Poppy in case it's a girl!
