Baby names - how much alliteration is too much?

We have a DS, whose name is a J name. Am expecting DD, and after mucho mucho fighting, we are starting to come to some sort of compromise with regard to names.

However, our pre-decided and much loved middle name for DD is a J name and we do not want to change it, AND one of the names we actually (finally) agree on as a first name is also a J name.

It is too much to have a DD with alliterative first and middle names, even though I find that middle names seem to be largely irrelevant these days. And, the J and J with regard to DS and DD. I really never wanted to have this, but now this name comes up...

Is it too much? Both DH and I are unsure.

Middle names are only really so you can name your child after someone without having to call them something you don't like, so who cares if both names start with J? They don't have to go.

Also, what difference does it make if both your children have names starting with the same name?

I'd say just go for it.

Pesonally, I wouldn't go for both ds and dd having a name beginning with J. S'ok about the middle one,

Go with whichever name(s) you like best, regardless of initial letters and alliteration. You'll regret it if you don't.

Middle name and first name being both J doesnt matter in the slightest imo
DD and DS having both J names really depends on the names I think.
Jane and John sound too similar on top of both being J names.
Jack and Joanne sound fine together though.

My first choice name for DS2 was Dexter. We wanted Douglas as a middle name after DH Grandad and our surname starts with D too!
I did change my mind at the last minute due to too many D's!

dd2 and dd3 have the same initial for first name, and so do I. If I had to do it again, I would not have done this! Too many 'x's' !!!!

Hmmm, well, my gut feeling is that the middle and first name alliteration doesn't matter as much as the brother sister alliteration.

I agree with you 2.4, about some names being better. OK, so DS is Jake and we are looking at Josephine. What's the damage verdict?

And LOL at DDD!!!

And, Ds's initials are JPP and this will mean DD would be JJP. I think this doesn't matter. DH insists I put it to the MN jury

Josephine is likely to shortened I should think, but Josie sounds ok with Jake too (better than Jake and Jo although that isnt to terrible either)

I like Josephine, its a lovely name.
What will her middle name be?

Am unsure of saying as don't want anyone to disparage it , but I can take it....it is Juno.

She would likely be shortened to Josie, Joey or Posey, not Jo until she was old enough to overrule us, by which time no-one will care that her and her brother have the same initial, no?

I am one of three girls we were always being caled the wrong name, (all very different names) This is much worse for the individual.

Rhyming names are a bit worrying Posey and Rosie or something similar would be awful.

I'm a big fan of alliteration, thanks to Milly Molly Mandy. I deliberately double-barrelled my name when I got married so that my initials would be XQXX - well that's the pattern anyway - so I'm generally known as X X X_. My daughter's initials are DDYXX. One of my stuffier colleagues wrinkled her nose and said 'two sets of alliteration?' in a Lady Bracknellish way, but nobody else has ever commented, although some people have raised an eyebrow at how many names we've saddled her with!

I come form a family full of J's, (apart frmon one of us) Never caused a problem. I even gave DS1 a J name.

I don't see a problem.

You do have a lot of alliteration, glucose Fortunately, DH and I have different initials completely in terms of first and middle names so no matchy matchy there...

I think Jake and Josie sounds great.
me and my brother have the same initials and sometimes i think it sounds better if you have 2 children with the same first initial as it can tend to flow easier.

I have this problem too. DS is Hugh and we are expecting another, not sure whether boy or girl but the frontrunner girl's name is Harriet.

It is not a deliberate use of H's just coincidental but the cutesyness of H and H puts me off slightly...is the consensus seems to be that it's okay?? Or was it just because Jake and Josephine goes well?

Spotty am glad it is not just me. When we started thinking of names in the early days I avoided the J section of name books as I was certain that I did not want two matching names like that.

Personally, I think it depends on the names in question and the letter. I think that H is a much more acceptable name to do this with than J, as J is a strong sound, whereas H is soft. But it does depend on the names I think. For example, Harry and Holly would not be good, I think your names sound fine.

It does against most of my desires though! It makes me wonder if the mere fact that I am considering it means that I must really like the name and that should tell me something?!
