Thank goodness you've gone off these 2, they are awful and they would probably be in a class with about 5 or 6 other boys all named the same.

Alexander is lovely as is Freddie, but I may be biased as my Grandad was Frederick John.

Stuff the MIL, name your child the name you love.

When DD was a few days old my Mum said "well, I suppose you can't choose the names they give to your Grandchildren" It only made me love the name more as she had give my sister and I the most popular names for that year.

Really don't like Brody, tend to like more traditional names, especially for boys.

Hi

I think Luke and Ethan are nice names even though slightly popular. I have the list below as we seem to have similiar taste

Ryan
Samuel
Liam
Charles (Charlie)
Fredrick (Freddy)
Ethan
Callum

We are not even pg yet but already considering names and people are happy to put their pennys worth in ( positive or negative )
Just have a little peek at him once his here and im sure a name will pop in there

Mustsleep - does your name begin with an M? does your partners begin with an M?

my cousin and his partner are due around teh same time and two of their final names are Luke and Ethan too.

CuckooChocolateOrange · 15/08/2008 10:42

Ethan more popular I think, so I'd go for Luke. Both are OK names but I wouldn't say either set me alight

BUT I prefer Lucas to Luke and I prefer Nathan to Ethan!!

Marcus has something of Luke and is not popular at all. Wdyt? a roman classic over a bible name?

That seems to be the trouble with boys names - all the half decent ones are incredibly popular. Much easier with girls.

What about Luca?

LuLuBai · 15/08/2008 11:13

I far prefer Freddie to either Luke or Ethan (tbh I don't like either of those two). It really isn't up to your relatives so I would say best not to discuss with them and just to present them with a name once baby is born!). I actually find Reg rather appealing in a retro way but maybe that is pregnancy brain on my part(last night I went to bed thinking Magnus would be a good name for a boy )

gagarin · 15/08/2008 11:17

The key thing is - can you/do you (and all the family) say your "th" sounds?

Because if you don't Ethan is forever going to be Efan.

Which is a nice name - but awfully common in some parts of the country (retreats to pedant's corner)

greenday · 15/08/2008 11:23

Already know of 3 Ethans born within the same year. For that (and apart from it being a lovely name too) .. I would go for Luke.

mustsleep · 15/08/2008 11:51

hi sorry this had disappeared of my threads list

my name starts with an L and dhs with an M

good point gararin ds can not always pronounce his w's and his th's

i think luke and ethan are well out of the running now

we are between

freddie (none of our families like it!!)

william (shortened to will) this seems to be the fave with everyone apart from dh

and that's it at the mo just cannot decide and prob will end up with neither

am now due in three weeks on monday!! and have no name !!!!

kerryk · 15/08/2008 18:43

ethan reminds me of that poncy trainee vicar from emmerdale a few years ago.

he was a big drip so that puts me of.

Agree with Moondag - Luke is vile and I hate the way all mums say Lukey (WTF) and Ethan is common too!
