Thoughts on the baby name Maeva for our second daughter

Hi everyone, we are expecting our second daughter in January and i am pretty set on the name Maeva for her.
I appreciate the name is fairly unique so I just wanted to get some opinions on the name before we make the final decision.
For context, our eldest daughter’s name is Camille nn Cami. We are not french, our love for the names is a happy accident.

I think Maeva is a lovely name

PinkCatCushion · 28/09/2026 21:43

I prefer Maeve.

Calliopespa · 28/09/2026 22:17

My first thought was that you had seen Maeve written and thought it was pronounced Maeva and decided you would spell it that way.

But what do I know if it's popular...

It's not a name I've come across in France tbh.

It isn't awful, but not a name I'd choose. It;s a bit close to Mavis for my liking, though I know those oldies are all back in vogue.

minipoodlemum · 28/09/2026 23:00

I used to be an au pair for a young Maeva in Paris - pronounced My-va not May-va. She will be in her late forties now.

Copperoliverbear · 28/09/2026 23:07

I love it.

WhatDoRacoonsSay · 28/09/2026 23:08

It's dreadful

CherryKerry · 28/09/2026 23:11

Sounds like local dialect for "My Eva", I would stick to Maeve to avoid a lifetime of confusion.

Is there not a made in Chelsea person called Maeva?

Yes there is. I like it OP and personally prefer it over Mavie.

escapegoats · 28/09/2026 23:15

I think it's ok, but I would assume you couldn't spell Maeve

Summer26woohoo · 28/09/2026 23:18

Maeva screams that you've tried too hard to be yoo-niqe by bastardizing the name Maeve. Even if that's not true, I think many will think it.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 28/09/2026 23:22

It’s not unique as it’s popularity is growing rapidly so there will be lots about. I prefer maeve personally. Or Eva. But not them combined

SaulHudsonDavidJones · 28/09/2026 23:24

I much prefer Maeve and I think it goes brilliantly with your other daughter’s name. Maeve is beautiful. Not a fan of Maeva I’m afraid.

sesquipedalian · 28/09/2026 23:24

I can’t forgive OP for the sentence, “I do like Maeve, but prefer Maeva. It has a girlier feel to me and is a little more unique.” It’s either unique, or it isn’t.

As for Maeva, I’m afraid I’d think it was a typo for Maeve.

Camille is lovely.
Maeve, I have always liked.

There are so many Avas that Maeva is similar to, in sound. Thus, it is not a favourite, sorry.
Is Mavie a long standing name?
Do you like Maude?
Mavis?
Maybelle
Malin

Butterflybluebell · 29/09/2026 09:10

I'd personally go for Maeve. Maeva feels a little made up to me but that's just my opinion, and my opinion doesn't matter. If you like it, go for it!

fluffiphlox · 29/09/2026 09:11

Maeva is the name of a French holiday apartment company.

BCBird · 29/09/2026 09:20

My immediate thought, was are yiu French? I looked after a French baby with this name. I love it. If there is any possibility that it will be routinely mispronounced, then I would reconsider. I would try it out with people who don't know any French.

Not heard of it before. So is it related to the Irish name Maeve or does it have a different origin?

It's fine.

Made in Chelsea is where I know it from too. She’s French isn’t she?

I like it, much better than Mavie.

CurlewKate · 29/09/2026 09:39

Do you mean Maeve? Because people will think you do. Which will be irritating for her.

MyFavouriteGame · 29/09/2026 11:04

I think Maeva is popular enough that people won’t think it’s Maeve.

Don’t like it at all. It sounds made up - French or otherwise. Mavie is even worse

LlynTegid · 29/09/2026 11:21

A lifetime of your DD having to spell her name to everyone. Is that kind?
