Completely totally stuck on a girls name.

Have posted here before re a baby girls name but we are still so so stuck. Opinions are needed please.

Baby is due in 6 weeks time.

Names we have on our list but nothing concrete are:

Raine- atm is the front runner. Concerned around reactions such as it not being a recognised name, people thinking they’ve misheard eg. Have a daughter who’s name is around 60-70 in latest ONS and is totally solid and recognisable as a name. Slight concerns also around “rain rain go away” and older people thinking it sounds like Lorraine, but not as concerned about both of those as previously.

Zara- has always been up there but just not sure, something isn’t right and we’re not sure what.

Willow- a new name we are considering, ONS popularity puts us off and unsure if we’d still like it in a years time.

Ember- love that it’s autumnal, hate how close to Amber it is and feel they may be correcting people a lot. Also not a fan of Amber. DD name starts with E which also puts us off.

Lola- is it too samey with Lylas Lilly’s Lana etc and the song.

Poppy- no8 on ONS which is v popular for us. Is it too cutesy in older life? Can be shortened which we like to avoid.

and finally for info, if it wasn’t for family use we’d have gone with Sadie. Maybe that’s why we can’t decide because that would have been our name.

any advice, thoughts, opinions welcome.

Alternatives welcome too however I feel like we’ve exhausted all names

I like Sadie and Ember the best - is it the case of Sadie is name of cousin, so you don't want to use it bc of that?
I also like Willow, Lola and Poppy, but not as much. I don't like Raine bc it's trendy to me. I know it's not overly popular, but at some point I was seeing Rain, Rayne or Rainn in quite a few media and baby name list, especially American

other ideas Nancy, Gwen, Louise, Daphne, Tessa, Juliet, Rosalie, Mabel (this one is trendy)

NamingNoNames · 11/09/2026 15:14

I'm guessing DD1 is Erin.
Raine is OK but 'Acid Raine' and 'Raine, Raine go away'
Zara is fine but is the name of a shop
Willow is ok
Ember not ok - Emberlysm and Dying Embers. Amber is nice
Lola is only ok for cockerpoos or kittens
Poppy is fine.

My favourite from the list is Poppy or Amber, then Willow.
Zara or Raine go best with Erin
I don't like Ember and Lola

Did you say Sadie? I like that.

Hermiaxx · 11/09/2026 15:14

Suki
Amy
Zadie
Ava
Elin

NamingNoNames · 11/09/2026 15:29

As a wildcard, I'll suggest Saskia.

Forgottenmyphone · 11/09/2026 15:30

Alternatives that I think are a similar kind of vibe to your shortlist:
Wren
Darcy
Saffron
Auburn
Oakley
Aubrey

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2026 15:31

It's already been suggested, but Zadie instead of Sadie?

Viviennemary · 11/09/2026 15:34

Raine is dire. Poppy is ok. Willow not too bad but a bit 1960's hippie. Ember ' that's a piece of coal so no. Zara reasonable but not personally kedn.

LoudPlumDog · 11/09/2026 15:38

I love Zara, in fact it’s one of my girls middle names, she’s nearly 40 and loves it!

Suggestions ….

Wren
Layla ( no mispronunciation with this spelling)
Greta
Nina
Alice
Dana
Xanthe
Phoebe
Freya
Grace
Maya
Lois
Tessa
Sylvie

DemBonesDemBones · 11/09/2026 15:39

Raine and Ember are my favourites, followed by Zara. The others are so over used and boring now.

user293948849167 · 11/09/2026 15:42

I like Ember best from your list
Also like Willow and Poppy although agree Poppy is a bit cutesy- I do know some adult Poppys though and the name suits them

Mulledjuice · 11/09/2026 15:42

Raine wouldn't be my choice but if you love it you should use it.

Could double -barrel it front or back if you're worried about getting lost.

And/or use one of your other (safer?) name ideas for a middle name

Karna · 11/09/2026 15:48

Love Ember and Lola. Raine sounds like a surname to me.

Kitty?

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/09/2026 15:51

Stella?

Dandeloosha · 11/09/2026 15:53

Raina is a name, or Wren, or Ren, or Rae?

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/09/2026 15:54

Rained was the name of Princess Diana's stepmother. Thy called her Acid Raine. So no.
Zara- OK.
Willow- not keen on tree names.
Ember- as in fire and ashes? No.
Amber- ok.
Lola - "L-O-L-A, Lola" like the song?no.
Poppy- OK for a little girl, not keen as an adult name.
Sadie. Neutral.

I saw a name today that I hadn't heard for ages...Fenella. I like it.

Mosaic80 · 11/09/2026 15:58

I love poppy and Zara. Less sure on Raine. A few others you may like:

wren (stole this from a pp’s list - love it!)
hazel
Lara
Zoe
skye
Fern
Lark
Raya

Missingthesea · 11/09/2026 16:01

Why not wait until she's arrived, and see which name suits her? it may not be any of the names you've thought of so far 😊

CaribbeanCupcake · 11/09/2026 16:08

Never heard of Ember as a name but it's beautiful, I actually love it!

Freshrain · 11/09/2026 16:09

I like Zara, but none of the others.

Raine and Ember are probably the worst from your list, IMO.

Excellentsausages · 11/09/2026 18:49

Raine - I like it. It has a Monaco/French Riviera/glamour vibe, and the sound is nice.

Zara - ok. Posh woman in her 40s but still ok.

Willow - very popular and heard it too much.

Ember - really nice. Nice image (not sure why people are being put off by embers in the fire) and nice sound

Lola - not a fan

Poppy - extremely popular and also twee

Sadie - fine. If you love it I'd use it unless it's cousin she'd see every day?

TrojanDonkey · 11/09/2026 21:19

There are tons of Poppys, Willows and Lolas. Especially if they get Rose/May/Grace stuck on the end.

I like Ember and Zara. Raine is ok.

Tiredbean · 11/09/2026 21:24

Rayna?

FoundAUserNameDownTheSofa · 11/09/2026 21:26

I like Zara

You could go for Autumn?
or:
Lois
Clara
Flora
Orla
Penelope/Penny
Verity
Willa
Rowan
Hazel
Tabitha
Zoe

permanently · 11/09/2026 21:30

Ember is beautiful

newrubylane · 11/09/2026 21:43

Sadie is beautiful. I like Zara also. I'm a bit meh on Poppy and Willow. Rain and Ember too out there for my taste. And I agree with your concerns about Lola.

Other suggestions from me that night fit with the vibe:
Anya
Nina
Ruby
Astrid
Etta
Wilma
