Completely totally stuck on a girls name.

Have posted here before re a baby girls name but we are still so so stuck. Opinions are needed please.

Baby is due in 6 weeks time.

Names we have on our list but nothing concrete are:

Raine- atm is the front runner. Concerned around reactions such as it not being a recognised name, people thinking they’ve misheard eg. Have a daughter who’s name is around 60-70 in latest ONS and is totally solid and recognisable as a name. Slight concerns also around “rain rain go away” and older people thinking it sounds like Lorraine, but not as concerned about both of those as previously.

Zara- has always been up there but just not sure, something isn’t right and we’re not sure what.

Willow- a new name we are considering, ONS popularity puts us off and unsure if we’d still like it in a years time.

Ember- love that it’s autumnal, hate how close to Amber it is and feel they may be correcting people a lot. Also not a fan of Amber. DD name starts with E which also puts us off.

Lola- is it too samey with Lylas Lilly’s Lana etc and the song.

Poppy- no8 on ONS which is v popular for us. Is it too cutesy in older life? Can be shortened which we like to avoid.

and finally for info, if it wasn’t for family use we’d have gone with Sadie. Maybe that’s why we can’t decide because that would have been our name.

any advice, thoughts, opinions welcome.

Alternatives welcome too however I feel like we’ve exhausted all names

Ember and Willow sound like pet names to me.

Raine is awful with this spelling and its unclear if the meaning is Reign (queen) or Rain (weather). If you want a hippy/alternative vibe I'd go for Rain but brace for teasing.

What about Sara (not pronounced Sarah - its sounds close to Zara but softer s sound).

Meadow or Lark or Sorrel? If you like nature names like Rain that is.

I’d ditch the unnecessary ‘e’ at the end of Rain if you go with that though. Or, if it’s the ‘queen’ meaning you prefer, I’d do Reina or Reine instead. Raine just doesn’t make sense to me and feels like a mash of the two meanings.

Raine is awful I'm afraid! It's sounds like a whining sound. Or the weather.

Zara is really nice. Or how about Cara or Zara? Willow and Poppy are OK but very popular. How about Briony, Hebe, Cassia or Tamsin instead?

Raine Spencer (Princess Diana's stepmother) seemed to wear the name well! Of your list, I like Ember most of all (I used to ride a lovely horse called that!), with Zara and Raine close behind.

I’m not a fan of raine, but it’s absolutely fine if you like it. I wouldn’t be worried about the associations kids are called a large variety of names these days! I like willow and ember too, though would probably share the concerns you have slightly but depends how much it will actually bother you. Suggestions

Isn’t Raine pronounced with an ay at the end? That’s how I would say it! I like it.

I also like Renee.

I personally would avoid names where the spelling isn’t obvious so they avoid having to spell it out for the rest of their lives (I say near a Marc at work and hearing ‘Marc with a C’ multiple times a day was tortuous for us, let alone him.
I’m afraid whatever your intention, there is always a way a name can be shortened (Karen was a popular name in my day and I know one who became ‘Kar’ in her teens and another ‘K’

I think Raine is just Rain but Gráinne is Grawn ya

raine just sounds like a nick name for Lorraine to me, a name I’ve never been fond of

poppy is too common and so many pets called it too.

other names are nice, Zadie was a good shout too.

Willa, Remi, Wren, Rae, River, Meadow, Barley and the misspelt names are dreadful.

Are you a Terry Pratchett fan? He has a heroine called Emberella, it's a play on Cinderella and the joke is it sounds like 'Umbrella'.

I’d wait and see which of the names she suits when she comes. I like Zara best from your list. Sorry, but I think Raine is awful!

I wouldn’t discount Poppy just because you can shorten it-you can shorten pretty much any name. I know a Lola known as Lols!

I know a couple of girls called Ember-I’d not heard of it until a few years back. They are both Asian. I think it’s pretty but does get mistaken for Amber.

Names are popular for a reason The reason being because people use them.
It's to do with fashion not how nice the names are. When the names stop being fashionable they tend to fall from use. A 100 years ago, Gladys had been a top 20 name for 3 decades, yet over the past 3 decades hardly used Baby name explorer.

I wasn't keen on Willow but it has grown on me a little now I know a pleasant teenager with that name.

What about Sadiah? Or do you want only 2 syllables?
