What could Lainey be a nickname for?

My husband loves the name Lainey. I think it's cute, but see it more of a nickname.

Does anyone have ideas for a "full" name? So far I've come up with Delaney and Elaine. Our last name starts with E and is 2 syllables if that helps.

Elaine.

Elaine is usually what Lainey is short for but a couple others could be Eleanor (Ellie), Alayna (Ally or Lainey)

Elaine

Didn't see you'd already said that!

Needmorelego · 24/07/2026 11:13

According to Google it's derived from (Greek) Helen or (French) Elaine.
Personally I think it's fine as a stand alone name.

Helena, if you pronounce it Hel-ay-na

I think this is nicest and works best.

Elaine is very, very dated.

I do know a lainey whose in her 40s and its her full name. I know not what you asked, but no ones ever asked her what its short for.

Arlena is a character from Murder under the Sun film. Could be Arlaina.

pinkyredrose · 24/07/2026 11:31

Why not just call her Lainey?

MorganaKate · 24/07/2026 11:32

Ghislaine, although possible unfortunate connotations re Murdoch

Orphlids · 24/07/2026 11:51

Elena - pronounced El-ain-ah.

Or at a stretch, the very exciting Igraine.

It can be full name in its own right - I have a feeling it’s a common American name
