Iris

I'm so close to choosing this name for our upcoming DD.
I love the meaning, I love the flower, I love the song! But I can't quite settle on it.
I've seen some comments where people say it's too popular but I've never met one. It seems to be around 60 in the charts which is fine to me.

Any thoughts? Anyone with an Iris? Does it get nicknames? The sound feels quite unusual to me, I think it's because it ends in an S and I'm used to names ending in a y or an a!

My daughter is Isis and about to leave to UC college. She has chosen preferred name Iris. I really really love it. Great name.

I don’t like it at all, I don’t like the sound of it. But I’m not a fan of vintage names.

It is popular. I work with kids and see a fair few, a friend has one. It’s not up there with the Olivias and Amelias and the Evies and Avas but it’s certainly not an unusual name. I mean, if you like it use it.

I think it’s absolutely beautiful and wanted it for DD (DH didn’t like it) but I do think it will be a name that’s steadily gained popularity in the 2020s, I know a lot of little Irises.

I have an Iris, still love it.

Does she get any nicknames associated with the name or is she always just Iris?

It’s a beautiful name. I know 2 little ones out of 4 young girls circles. Don’t think that’s overused.

Biased because I worked with a lovely older woman called this in my first job, which makes me like the name-it is stupid, but people do judge names based on people we've known.
But I love it and would say go for it. I like short names too, as a lot if us seem to.

ISIS didnt exist until about 12 years ago and it would have been a nice name. Noone could predict that.
It's like the name Alexa has now fallen off a cliff due to Amazon.

Love the name Iris. Never met anyone with that name so it can’t be too popular. Worst thing for me is the song as I can’t stand it.

She is ‘irie’, dad has Caribbean heritage and it means good/cool, she is just perfect 😍

Iris is a beautiful name. I only know one and she’s a joy. Isis is equally lovely - nobody can possibly predict the associations a name might have in the future.

DS is now 13 and would have been Iris had he been a DD. Still love it, never met one in any baby/toddler/school or social group so it’s not popular in my area but such a great name. Go for it!

I like it but associate it with spaniels, as we know two called that (and no children of that name).

I love it, so pretty and classic. Have a family member (aged 6) called it but not come across any others yet.
