Heather, Lydia, Rachel, Sam, Shanice, Jasmin, Curtis, Elliot, Jordan, Joanna, Jade x2, Kayleigh, Chloe, and on and on and on... I had a facial difference that I couldn't hide, so I was the target for a lot of bullying by most people who noticed it (including one specific teacher, Miss Whitley, who was probably a bully in her own schooldays). It's no wonder that I'd spend the last night of every school holidays crying and asking not to have to go back to school. People started treating me a bit better when my deformity started to be fixed. By the time I left, I barely spoke to anyone, because I just wanted to be invisible and go unnoticed.
One got slapped and threatened by a sibling's friend. He never came near me after that. Funnily enough, he had a similar deformity, but not as bad... and WTF tries bullying someone because they have a recently deceased parent?! (Fortunately, I wasn't too bothered about the death of an abusive parent...).
One only apologised years later, when my sibling refused to sit with him, and told the mutual friend why. He eventually moved to New Zealand. Good riddance, in my opinion...
I've seen one once, with a ropey-looking boyfriend and a gang of offspring. She knew exactly who I was. I gave her a filthy look and told my dog (then a friendly puppy) in a nice loud voice that we don't associate with such people. Thankfully, my puppy was very obedient in avoiding her!
I suspect that a lot of them don't realise how much damage they cause, but what possesses people to be so unkind? I wouldn't wish their treatment on my own worst enemy. I'm really glad that I moved far enough away that my own DC will never meet theirs, or attend the same schools that I did.
