Hi all,

Considering these two names for a baby girl - curious to know which people prefer out of Flora and Lilia.

Thanks in advance :)

I love Flora, possible shortened from Florence but Flora is a gorgeous name.
I like Lilia but Lily, Olivia, Layla, Lila have been popular for a while now.

AgentPidge · 28/04/2026 20:34

Flora.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/04/2026 20:35

Flora is a great name!

mathanxiety · 28/04/2026 20:35

I prefer Flora by a long stretch.

FryingPam · 28/04/2026 20:36

I prefer Flora. Not a fan of Lilia, I think it might be mistaken for Lila. I do like Lilian though, or even Lily although it’s popular.

MississippiCroc · 28/04/2026 20:37

Flora.

But only because there are a bajillion Lilys that it’ll just blend in.

Lolcow · 28/04/2026 20:39

i prefer lilia. It’s not a brand of margarine

WildGarden · 28/04/2026 20:44

Lilia used to be a used to be a brand of sanitary towel when I was a girl.

I love Flora.

itsdifferentforgirls · 28/04/2026 20:44

I teach. Lots of Lilias (versions there of). Never taught a Flora. In case either of those things is important!

LadySlipper · 28/04/2026 20:48

Flora!

empathyflo · 28/04/2026 21:08

Thanks so much for your preferences and thoughts on both names! Was leaning more towards Flora, so it's great to know most of you like the name :)

Flora by miles

Mosaic80 · 28/04/2026 21:18

I have a massive soft spot for flora so would go with that one. Also know a lot of lilys.

NamingNoNames · 28/04/2026 22:24

Flora - lovely
Lilia - Tesco own brand tampons, too similar to Lily but not as nice

I don't get the shortening of Florence to Flora - it doesn't make sense.

Lilia used to be a used to be a brand of sanitary towel when I was a girl.

I love Flora.

Yes, I remember this too.

I really like Flora.

Flora

Redsparklybucket · 29/04/2026 11:19

I've got a Flora and she is fab - go for it

Credittocress · 29/04/2026 11:26

I’d go Florie/Floraidh shortened from Florence. Both are pretty though

Iloveflora · 29/04/2026 11:31

I have a teenage Flora (obvious name
change for this post) and the only time I ever hear the butter comment is on Mumsnet. DD has certainly never mentioned it and loves her name. Go for it!

NamingNoNames · 29/04/2026 12:05

I love Flora too. So pretty but not twee.

User74939590 · 29/04/2026 12:07

Is the second name Lil-ia as opposed to Lila? It’s quite hard to skim read. I don’t like Flora either.

sesquipedalian · 29/04/2026 12:08

Flora is a delightful name. Lilia not so much - and as others have noted, it has feminine products connotations.

NamingNoNames · 29/04/2026 12:25

@User74939590 , Lilia is 'Lill-ya' or 'Lily-a'. Like Lillian without the n, not Lyla.

I see Flora as lots of bright colourful flowers so it's pretty.
Lilia I see a box of tampons. Smile

Peanutlicious · 29/04/2026 12:32

Flora but I know a Lilia and have always liked that name too

Firebird83 · 29/04/2026 16:06

Flora by far.
