It's far far far too early to be thinking about names, we think, maybe, well - really as we've no idea how far along i am I might as well think about names!

So - dh likes Kitty for a girl, and I do as well, but I'd like my kids to have long names so i can tell them off with them! But dh doesn't like Katherine.

Can anyone else think about "long" names for Kitty?

I won't even start on boy's names...

Katerina?
something double-barreled with Kate at the beginning or end eg Emily-Kate?

PrincessPeaHead · 18/06/2008 09:25

I know a Kitty who is really a Catriona. And another who is Katrina. They are all of course Catherine, just different forms (btw I prefer Catherine to Katherine, I don't know why)

Flllight · 18/06/2008 09:25

I thought it was short for Elizabeth.

I could well be wrong!

Katarina is nice.

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2008 09:25

Katrina?
Katia?

mishymoo · 18/06/2008 09:29

Kaitlin could be shortened to Kitty? It's different to the usual spelling of Caitlin!

theSuburbanDryad · 18/06/2008 09:29

If i have a hyphenated name with Kate as the second name i'll be constantly thinking about Mary-Kate (from Mary-Kate and Ashley! )

I love Elizabeth as a name, but dh isn't keen. He's happy for it as a middle name though. I like Katherine Elisabeth but dh doesn't.

How's things with you F&Z - did you get a boy's name sorted in the end?

Wow! Didn't know you were PG - congratulations.

There is a Kitty in DS's class - she is lovely - ALL the boys like her - even DS and he HATES girls!

You could give her a middle name and then when telling off you say "Kitty Mary Smith!" in a loud voice. I do that with DS! He gets the whole thing when I am cross.

Flllight · 18/06/2008 09:31

Maybe think along the lines of something with Kit in it, instead of starting with K necessarily...I am unable to think of anything at present. Except Plackett. That is not a name.

Flllight · 18/06/2008 09:32

Saskia could be shortened to Kitty.

theSuburbanDryad · 18/06/2008 09:33

Thanks Buda!

Ds gets the full 4 name treatment in cross Mama voice when he's being a monkey! We have a double-barrelled surname so i don't too many syllables! Ds' name is a bit of a mouthful!

Or Biscuit.

No really I am going this time

theSuburbanDryad · 18/06/2008 09:35

Biscuit!!! Pmsl!

WelliesAndPyjamas · 18/06/2008 09:37

Katia
Katarina

LOL @ Biscuit!

Congrats

theSuburbanDryad · 18/06/2008 09:39

Katia is a bit...foriegn.

Ds has a very traditional old Testament name! I'd quite like them to match IYSWIM!

FrannyandZooey · 18/06/2008 09:46

oh yes am sorted now thanks

bet it is a girl though, and I am not 100% settled on dp's favourite girls' neame

theSuburbanDryad · 18/06/2008 09:51

I like Felix for a boy, but my bf had a little boy 7 months ago and called him Felix! She pipped me to the post on Oliver as well (but y about 10 years, so can't really complain about that! )

If we had a boy and called him Christopher he could be Kit as well!

WilyWombat · 18/06/2008 09:52

Yes I know a Kitty too (again all the boys love her) I always think of her as Pretty Kitty. I dont think its shortened though - im fairly sure thats what she was christened.

PuppyMonkey · 18/06/2008 10:45

Could you just have Kate as the telling-off name...?

Kitlyn is in the namebook. What about Kitten? Jonathan Ross's kid is called Betty Kitten. Bit cutesy for a grown up though.

If you have a double barrelled surname, surely you don't want too long a first name anyhoo? My knowledge of the Bible is not comprehensive but I can't think of any long female names that begin with Kit in the Old Testament...

Old Testament - Martha, Mary, Eve, Salome, Abigail, Deborah, Delilah, Dinah, Esther, Hannah, Jemimah, Leah, Miriam, Rachel,Rebekah, Naomi, Sarah, Ruth, Bathsheba.

VictorianSqualor · 18/06/2008 12:02

Christina?

kittyw3kittens · 18/06/2008 12:04

Hark ... look at you on here already !!!!

I like Katrina (well I would do... and I'm DB too) although there are a few more around these days

Goes well with DS too

I love Jonathan Ross & Jane Goldman's names for their kids! Apparently she was named Kitten because she looked like a kitten on the scan photos! Soooooo cute, but not something i'd name my child tbh, can't see it going down to well at the local grammar/comprehensive school, whereas it might work quite well at the poncey private school for slebs that she will no doubt end up going to! ( )

I'm not mad on old testament names for girls, i just don't want anything that's too faddy or that's going to sound dated in a few years' time! Having said that, I quite like Miriam, but it reminds me of Miriam Stoppard now (bleh) so that's a no!!

Well, Constance is nice, and classic. I suppose you could shorten it to Kitty at a pinch, as well.
