I know they’re different names, not just different spellings 😂 which do you prefer?

Felix

Phoenix is a wanky name

BoleynMemories13 · 15/02/2026 16:51

I prefer Felix. It's not to my usual taste, but it's far preferable to Phoenix. I've known Phoenix to be used on both boys and girls over the years (more in the 00s actually, I've not heard it for a while). Parents have all been more 'hippy' types, if that helps you to gage whether it's for you or not.

Felix is unusual enough in that I can't imagine it ever breaking the top 50. Depending on your area, he probably won't be one of many. I would stick with that.

Felix.

Phoenix is bloody awful.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 15/02/2026 17:13

Neither, sorry, Felix =cat, Phoenix= just no

brillbrunette · 15/02/2026 18:28

Felix, without a doubt.

Isn't Mel the Spice Girls' daughter called Phoenix?

Yes. She has 3 daughters called Phoenix, Angel & Madison.

It's not often I say this but Madison is the fortunate one.

Felix is one of my favourite names- it is 62nd, I don't think it's impossible it gets above 50. Its popularity would not bother me though, and names are less popular in general anyway. Great name.

No, not impossible, but it's not a trendy name so I can't imagine any major spikes. It's not one that sees big surges year upon year. If it does reach the top 50 one day, then no big deal.

Everyone has different views on what 'popular' means but, to me, that's not exactly popular.

Call your baby Felix and your cat phoenix

MagicMarkers · 15/02/2026 20:00

The only Phoenix I know is a female they/them and it's a name she adopted. It's quite a common choice for "non-binary" (boak) names, like Max or Ajax.

Pettenell · 16/02/2026 03:45

I really like both. I prefer Felix though, one of my favourite boy names. I know a little girl called Phoenix... very cute.

Giraffehaver · 16/02/2026 03:45

Felix

JoeSikoraTommysStory · 16/02/2026 03:48

Definitely not felix isn’t that a cat name?

boobaaaa · 16/02/2026 04:39

Phoenix

youalright · 16/02/2026 06:09

Phoenix. Felix is a cat

ArcticSkua · 16/02/2026 06:13

I know a Phoenix, she's a girl so I think of it as a girl's name. Her nickname is Phee. I'd choose Felix for a boy.

Orangepate · 16/02/2026 06:17

I knew a primary school teacher who told me that any parent who named their child Felix, might as well have named him “Little Sod” because that is what they invariably turned out to be.

cariadlet · 16/02/2026 06:18

Felix is a great name for a cat and Phoenix for a bird (if suitably majestic).
I'm not keen on either for a child.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 16/02/2026 06:21

Felix means luck.

Phoenix is doomed to a lifetime of being spelled 'Pheonix' sadly (I know a child with this name, he's lovely and the name suits him, but unfortunately this is not a location where myths and legends are much known).

Duckies · 16/02/2026 06:25

Phoenix makes me think that one or both parents may have 'gone through' something.

Also surprised no Phoenix nights mentions yet.

camelfinger · 16/02/2026 06:26

Felix is nice.
Phoenix is ok for London.

CurlewKate · 16/02/2026 06:51

Felix every time. No child wants be called Phoenix. Or even Phoenician, which is what Autocorrect suggested.

It can also be translated as happy.

It still feels like a cat's name to me although the female equivalent, Felicity, feels like a girl's name.

stopringingme · 16/02/2026 07:40

Felix
