I'm pregnant and I LOVE the name Malcolm. I think its cool and added bonus that its Scottish. My husband and everyone hates Malcolm however. I may still use it.

Any suggestions for like wise names (not Hamish) or good Scottish names? Duncan, Rory and Andrew have been ruled out by husband.

It’s just standard etiquette to actually engage with the thread you started.

Hector is of Greek origin. The Spanish is Héctor, I think.

I'm sure the Scottish version of Hector is Eachann.

NamingNoNames · 10/02/2026 20:02

Eachann - Wikipedia Eachann has often been Anglicised as Hector (which is also etymologically unrelated to Eachann).

Malcolm is lovely.

muddyford · 11/02/2026 05:29

Malcolm is great.
There's an Artair in a Scottish novel I'm reading, which sounds classy.
Why does your DH veto everything?

Just if he knows someone with a name I like who didn't turn out well etc, no a great excuse I agree 😂

All the Malcolms I have known have been well above average in the likeable department! Go for it.
