Rocco or Roscoe

Are these names awful? Do you like any of them and if so, which?

I know a couple of Roccos and Roscoes. Unfortunately all ‘challenging’ children. So I’d say neither.

Rosco to me is Rosco P Coltrane (Dukes of Hazzard). You'll need a basset hound called Flash for the full effect.

Lewis Hamilton had a dog called Roscoe I think.

Of the two, Roscoe but only because Rocco is awful.
Ross is nice.

Rocco is a porn actor (documentary on Netflix before anyone gets inflamed) and Roscoe is Roscoe P Coltrane from the Dukes Of Hazard.

Roscoe - honestly I'd be surprised to meet a human child named this.

Rocco - fine but a bit odd if you aren't Italian.

Nice names for a terrier.

Roscoe makes me think of Reacher book/tv series who is a woman. I think it does probably work more as a boy's names as I don't really like using surnames especially for girls.

I like Rocco but like others say it works better if you're Italian or have the heritage.

Neither are nice for human children imo.

I wouldn't think of Roscoe being shortened to Ross as that's a standalone name.

It's way outside the band of the kind of names I'd use, but I actually quite like it on other people's children.

Rocco is ok if there is Italian heritage but otherwise it's a bit kind of Rocky Horror Picture Show.

I know a few Roscoes and it doesn't get shortened, except one who is "Osky."

Rocco makes me think of the porn star who has also appeared in mainstream movies/documentaries (I am not a porn viewer before anyone @s me).

I think it works best if you have Italian/Mediterranean heritage.

Roscoe, I'm not really familiar with, but I think it's okay.

My son is called Rocco (named after his grandfather), but we have an Italian surname with it so it works. I think Rocco with a bog standard English surname would sound odd. I think any very “foreign” name with an English surname is a bit peculiar/try hard tbh. Or maybe you have an Italian surname, OP, in which case ignore me.

Roscoe sounds like a nick name or a pet. Actually I know several dogs called Rocco so although that wasn’t my first thought, it’s clearly a pet name too 😅

I'm picturing a German Shepherd, big boofy male last seen chasing after criminals.

If I had to pick one it would be Rocco. One of my DC has a friend called Rocco and his nicknames are Rocky Roadman and Baby as in (Rock a bye baby) which always make me laugh.

Roscoe is awful.

I know a very “challenging” Rosco too. I prefer Rocco.
