“who the f;:@& is Alice?”
I hadn't heard of it before I came on here.

Lovely! I’ve got a Mabli ☺️

If we didn't have a Mabel in the family then Mabli would have been Phoebe's name. Absolutely gorgeous

LauraFaye88 · 13/01/2026 17:10

I think it is lovely but I can't get past A lice if you break the name down.

Samdelila · 13/01/2026 17:14

Yay

windatthewindow · 13/01/2026 17:17

Everyone loves it on here, “timeless”, “classic”. I find it a bit wet. Also makes me think of lice.

Never understood why Alice is so beloved, yet Alison very much not.

I love it, wanted to call my dd Alice…..DH couldn’t get past “who the f;:@& is Alice?”… a lyric from a song. Just to warn you! The song is called “living next to Alice”

I love that song 😂 I've only ever had it from older people though, and not very often.

Alice has served me well. Though I do get Alison or Alex a lot, particularly at school.

Berlinlover · 13/01/2026 17:22

It’s a beautiful name. When my grandmother was growing up her best friend was called Alice and she was always telling me stories of what they got up to.

ginasevern · 13/01/2026 17:25

Very nice solid name, can't go wrong really.

Wholetthatgoatin · 13/01/2026 17:25

My eldest’s name 🥰🥰🥰

Terrific name. If we'd had a second daughter there's a strong chance she would have been called Alice. We had been thinking of Katherine but hadn't settled on a spelling and the fact that there are so many possibles was putting me off. I don't think we'd have had that problem with Alice.

@windatthewindow, Never understood why Alice is so beloved, yet Alison very much not.
Probably because Alison was an import.

I don't think it is, unless you count the fact that it was originally a Mediaeval French name derived from Alice. Wikipedia says it's first recorded as a first name in Scotland in the 12th century.

Emanwenym · 13/01/2026 18:03

It's 'Little Alice' or similar in French. That's what a French person told me when she told me what her DC were called. (My face probably said 'Why have you named your child something from the 1960s?' even though my mouth was saying 'How lovely!')

whereisit1 · 13/01/2026 18:13

The name is ok, a little boring. But my first thought is the song, I can't believe more people aren't saying it, and I'm not even that old.
"24 years just waiting for a chance 🎶 "

caringcarer · 13/01/2026 18:22

I love Alice. It was my Mum's name.

SharpGoldWriter · 13/01/2026 23:58

Love it! Classic, beautiful, but not super common.

AgentPidge · 14/01/2026 22:27

I've never liked it; it seems stuffy and old-fashioned. But who cares what I think? If you love it, go for it. It's a perfectly acceptable and normal name.

wizzler · 14/01/2026 22:35

Love it

Kantreadabloodything · 17/01/2026 22:02

Classy and and not fussy. Can't beat it. Welsh variations great if Welsh

CanIbeRio · 17/01/2026 22:10
