I love it! It’s one of my favourite girls names.

Emanwenym · 12/01/2026 10:35

I like it but don't like the Alys spelling.

Gahr · 12/01/2026 16:11

Yay. My favourite girl's name.

Alys or Alis?

Alys!

Gahr · 12/01/2026 16:12

NuffSaidSam · 11/01/2026 21:35

I like it.

But I know sooo many, admittedly of all different ages, but still sooo many.

It still is a wonderful name, you can never have too many IMO.

stackhead · 12/01/2026 16:13

We have an Alice. She's the only Alice in her school at the minute (so just because it's popular doesn't mean you'll hear it all the time).

I love her name! and she suits it. Girly but strong.

Calliopespa · 12/01/2026 16:37

I like Alice.

zebrastripesarefun · 12/01/2026 16:43

Alice is a lovely classic name. Like the spelling Alys too

Emanwenym · 12/01/2026 17:05

I think the Alys spelling is fine if you're Welsh-speaking. A bit like I like Lili, Casi, Nansi or Lia but don't see it working as a 'different' spelling.

I had a great aunt Alis.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 12/01/2026 17:13

It’s never done me any harm 😉
I like that it’s known, but not very heavily used.

Agreed. My children attend a Welsh school and all the names are gorgeous. My husband, however, cannot pronounce half of them!

Emanwenym · 12/01/2026 17:41

I wouldn't say all the names are gorgeous, and they don't benefit from being anglicised. That's a separate thread though.Smile

landlordhell · 12/01/2026 17:42

Lovely. 2 at my primary school- both nice girls.

anotheruser76326 · 12/01/2026 18:04

I love it, wanted to call my dd Alice…..DH couldn’t get past “who the f;:@& is Alice?”… a lyric from a song. Just to warn you! The song is called “living next to Alice”

Scrabsqueak · 12/01/2026 18:28

Classic, my GMs name and my first born

Instructions · 12/01/2026 18:31

Lovely. Suits any age- I can as easily picture a baby Alice as a 30 year old or 80 year old one.

Yes and it destroyed the original. Have to say that’s long gone now( 90s) and I’d forgotten about it until you mentioned it.

I’m an Alice and I get this at least weekly! 😩

LolaBumble · 12/01/2026 19:38

Thank you guys!! This has all really confirmed our choice 🥰

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware you had a list of the Welsh names from my children's school 🤷‍♀️ I think all the Welsh names at my children's school are gorgeous. Not every Welsh name to exist...

Emanwenym · 12/01/2026 19:56

I'm one of the teachers.Smile
I was referring to the names I mentioned with the not all of them are gorgeous. I like one or two of them, the others less so.
Many kids have names that when I hear them the first time, I think 'hmm' but I like it once I'm used to it.

Redhairandhottubs · 12/01/2026 19:59

It’s ok but I feel it’s a bit bland. In my mind , it’s similar to Emily, Lucy, Sophie type names…nothing wrong with them, just blah.

Emanwenym · 12/01/2026 20:03

@Redhairandhottubs , but that's why some of us like it.

pambeesleyhalpert · 13/01/2026 07:12

CJones11 · 12/01/2026 09:16

She's a Phoebe Alys. I love it.
Our other daughter has a Welsh name, Gwennan Joy.

Lovely! I’ve got a Mabli ☺️

Never heard of it.
Alice is nice. A bit meh. If I’m honest. But fine.
