Jasmine - is this too boring/dated?

Hi, my daughter is 3 weeks old. Do you think Jasmine is too safe/boring or too dated?

Me and my husband have uncommon names.
my sons name is heard of but definitely not popular.
My eldest daughter’s names is uncommon, 3 syllable name which is often a bit of a marmite name but is a conversation starter and still my favourite name of all time!

I wanted a similar style name for my baby daughter but couldn’t commit to one. (I love 3 syllables ending in a sound).

I absolutely love the name Eliza and this was the top contender throughout the pregnancy. But I’m worried it’s having a bit of a popularity rise at the moment (I seem to be hearing it everywhere). And as previously mentioned the rest of the family have uncommon names. Plus my hubby struggled to remember this name!

Baby was also called Yasmin for about 10hours but then I changed my mind to Jasmine.

I’m also concerned about what suits our ethnicity, she’s mixed (mostly black British) and was worried Eliza and Yasmin didn’t suit her.

So my question is, do I stick with Jasmine or do you prefer Yasmin or Eliza?

Thanks

I mean I have a Jasmine so feel like I’m bias. I think Eliza is quite harsh sounding.

I do call DD JazzyFizzle though, and Jasminaaa Grin

It’s lovely OP
can have mina as a nn too

Minnie would be really cute on a little girl, as well.

Jasmina is another option if you want something less common

Came here to say this and has the options of two nicknames Jazz or Mina, I like both. Not a fan of Eliza, don't dislike Yasmin, but don't feel the vibe for it as much as Jasmine

RedRobyn24 · 01/01/2026 21:19

I think it’s really lovely

EzWin2 · 01/01/2026 21:34

Personally not keen on Jasmine, it’s a bit 2000’s.

PInkyStarfish · 01/01/2026 21:55

I like the name Jasmine but I hate it shortened to Jazz which it may well be.

Do you like Juliet or Juliette?

wonreasleyy · 01/01/2026 22:12

Love Jasmine but I may be biased !

I have a 21 year old Jasmine Ivy. I still love her name. I work in education and there are no Jasmine's in our 300 child school, although there are a few Ivy's. Flower names are not as popular anymore.
Edited to say there are several Eliza's.

Jugendstiel · 01/01/2026 22:27

I think Jasmine is a beautiful name. As is Yasmin.

Eliza was in my top three names if either DC had been a girl but I went right off it and prefer Elizabth with all its lovely nicknames.
What about Elvira if you like unusual names? Seraphine?

Jinkslinger · 01/01/2026 22:49

How about Jessamy which is an old name for Jasmine ?

Emmz1510 · 01/01/2026 23:06

No I think it’s lovely and definitely not boring, or dated. I much prefer it to Yasmin and I don’t much like Eliza.

PollyPeep · 01/01/2026 23:13

Jasmine is beautiful! I'd consider it for a daughter but I hate the nickname Jazz which seems inevitable 😑

k1233 · 01/01/2026 23:16

Yasmina is a 3 syllable name ending on a sound. Given you have been calling her Yasmin, it might be an option.

Googling it's not common and means jasmine

Yasmine and Eliza are horrible names. Just ugly names. You may aswell call her mavis.

quillfram · 02/01/2026 00:54

Eek! Its a VERY well-known porn website, which is probably one reason why there aren’t many about.
Eliza is pretty. Yasmin sounds really Asian.

Jasmine is the nicer name of the 3.

Pemba · 02/01/2026 01:45

Jasmine is quite pretty but Jessamine is prettier, classier and more unusual. It's the original form of the name, and would give the diminutives Jess or Jessa, if you wanted to avoid Jazz.

Eliza is a great name too.

Nothing wrong with Jasmine or Yasmin though.

And all the names suggested would suit a girl with any ethnic background, why not?

bexandthebeans · 02/01/2026 05:56

I like Jasmine. Could be shortened to Jassy if you don’t like Jazz?

AnnaMAJ · 02/01/2026 12:12

What about Kesia or Keziah?

Is it really a "VERY well-known" porn site? We're on page 3 of the comments and nobody else has mentioned that yet.

What about Kesia or Keziah?

Kesia looks wrong and Keziah gets said as Kez-eye-ah and Kez-ya .
