Jasmine - is this too boring/dated?

Hi, my daughter is 3 weeks old. Do you think Jasmine is too safe/boring or too dated?

Me and my husband have uncommon names.
my sons name is heard of but definitely not popular.
My eldest daughter’s names is uncommon, 3 syllable name which is often a bit of a marmite name but is a conversation starter and still my favourite name of all time!

I wanted a similar style name for my baby daughter but couldn’t commit to one. (I love 3 syllables ending in a sound).

I absolutely love the name Eliza and this was the top contender throughout the pregnancy. But I’m worried it’s having a bit of a popularity rise at the moment (I seem to be hearing it everywhere). And as previously mentioned the rest of the family have uncommon names. Plus my hubby struggled to remember this name!

Baby was also called Yasmin for about 10hours but then I changed my mind to Jasmine.

I’m also concerned about what suits our ethnicity, she’s mixed (mostly black British) and was worried Eliza and Yasmin didn’t suit her.

So my question is, do I stick with Jasmine or do you prefer Yasmin or Eliza?

Thanks

Cassia was also on my list but the hubby wasn’t keen

Cassandra?
Jemima
Juniper
Jessica

SnowFrogJelly · 31/12/2025 13:40

Jasmine not Cassia!

EatingHealthy · 31/12/2025 13:41

Jasmine is lovely (as is Eliza).

Do not do Jessamine as a pp suggested - that's awful.

Lins77 · 31/12/2025 13:42

I've just read a book with a character called Jessamine.

Not keen.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 31/12/2025 13:49

18yo DD has it as her middle name. She absolutely loathes it. Luckily she liked it as her first name.

landslide51 · 31/12/2025 13:59

I really like it. Much prefer Jasmine to your other options.

RegalDiamondMonster · 31/12/2025 14:11

I really dislike the sound of Eliza - Elizabeth sounds nicer - but Jasmine is very pretty. I'd stick with Jasmine.

Moreteaandchocolate · 31/12/2025 16:55

I like Jasmine - good choice!

XGiveMeStrengthX · 31/12/2025 16:57

It’s lovely!

Everleigh13 · 31/12/2025 16:58

Jasmine is a lovely name. I’m surprised it isn’t more popular.

Beamur · 31/12/2025 16:59

I don't know any little Jasmines. Couple of teens - usually shortened to Jas/Jazzy.
It's a pretty name.

Forestanimal · 31/12/2025 17:00

Jasmine’s lovely.

boy2026 · 31/12/2025 17:02

How about Kezia(h) or Yasmina?

Jasmine is known but not frequent so a good option. It's easy to spell and pronounce too and internationally would be pronounced Yasmin(a). Jazz is a fun short form. The only one I knew was called Min-min in the family - very much a private, baby name.

What about Jocelyn? That's 3 syllables and not very often heard.

Eliza is nice too; I considered this for my DDs as a short form for Elizabeth (both MILs are named this!).

Agree with all of this, including Jocelyn as an option - good idea.

RuthW · 31/12/2025 17:53

Eliza is lovely. Haven’t come across one for a long time. Yasmin and Jasmine are ok but sound like a 35 year old.

BoleynMemories13 · 31/12/2025 11:05

I much prefer Eliza. It's actually on a downward trend now in the 2020s, after peeking in the 2010s.

Jasmine is ok, but a bit dull compared to Eliza. I don't see why Eliza or Yasmin wouldn't suit a mixed race child? I know of mixed race children with both names, if that helps? (teenagers now)

I really like Eliza very much, and, apart from exceedingly over-used names like Olivia, (or Sarah when I was growing up), I don't really get too upset about popularity, as meeting others comes down to the groups you are moving in. You could go for something 50 names less popular and still end up with 4 in her class!

Jasmine isn't awful but I'm really not a fan of Jas or Jazz. I think Eliza is more elegant.

Oh and Yasmin is a contraceptive pill isn't it? Much prefer Jasmine.

JillyGiraffe · 31/12/2025 19:28

Jasmine is a beautiful name!

Playingvideogames · 31/12/2025 19:29

Jasmine is beautiful. Yasmin reminds me of the contraceptive pill.

Gowlett · 31/12/2025 19:29

I think Jasmine is a great name.

WholeHog · 31/12/2025 19:46

I like Jasmine. Tamsin is another option with a similar sound but without the flowery vibe.

Norastroud · 31/12/2025 23:03

Jasmine is a beautiful name!

Giddykiddy · 01/01/2026 11:16

very pretty - i know 2 Jasmines - both stunning and incredibly intelligent

Pettenell · 01/01/2026 11:18

Jasmine is okay, but Eliza is beautiful, and more timeless and elegant I think.
