Hi all, apologies for a final name post but our daughter is here and a few days old and we have agreed to choose her name this weekend as we don’t have the same favourite. I’m not interested in any other names but please could you rank my list below from favourite to least favourite:

Phoebe
Clara
Sophie
Beatrice
Poppy

Thank you!

Thanks so much all. I’m team Phoebe (Bea/Bee for short) and he prefers Beatrice with the same nickname. Both go with our surname but I just feel like Phoebe is less formal and more fun and softer somehow.

Congratulations @Floam6 . I think theyre all lovely names. My dd is a clara (clar-a ) but is 9 years old. I do think its a more popular name now but still not super popular.
How are you and your dh going to make the decision between Beatrice and phoebe? The only thing for me is princess Beatrice puts me off 🤣

I’m team Phoebe! I agree that it feels softer and friendlier than Beatrice, which I find quite formal / stuffy sounding.

Beatrice just reminds me of Beetroot and I don’t like it

Personally I think choosing a name based on nicknames you like is risky. I think nicknames form naturally and can’t be forced. I love the nickname Bee for Phoebe (and Beatrice) but in reality nobody ever uses that nickname for my Phoebe. I have asked her if she’d like people to call her Bee and she says she likes it but she’d be afraid people would think it’s short for Beatrice, which she doesn’t like at all. If we shorten her name at all we tend to call her “Phee” but mostly she’s Phoebe. At school she mostly gets called Pheeb, Pheebs or Pheebsey (all of which she hates!) So my advice is choose the full name you prefer.

  1. Poppy
  2. Sophie
  3. Phoebe
  4. Clara

I can’t even bring myself to rank Beatrice in 5th. It should be 1,005th at best.
