Hi all, apologies for a final name post but our daughter is here and a few days old and we have agreed to choose her name this weekend as we don’t have the same favourite. I’m not interested in any other names but please could you rank my list below from favourite to least favourite:

Phoebe
Clara
Sophie
Beatrice
Poppy

Thank you!

I think Sophie and Poppy are lovely names but so overused that they just blend into nothing, especially Sophie.
Of the other three:
Beatrice - love this name and some cool abbreviations of you wnat them (Bee, Be-a, Trixie etc )
Phoebe
Clara

HighburyHope · 05/12/2025 14:12

Sophie’s the nicest! I’d say:

  1. Sophie
  2. Clara
  3. Phoebe
  4. Beatrice
  5. Poppy

Although it depends how your surname ends. I’m not a fan of -y sounding first names and surnames together for example, but that’s just a personal preference of mine!

Congratulations and let us know what you go for!

Moreteaandchocolate · 05/12/2025 18:09

Clara is my current favourite girls name! I’d be happy to use any of them except Beatrice (I find it a bit formal / stuffy sounding, and “Bea” is a bit informal for work etc)

  1. Clara
  2. Phoebe
  3. Sophie
  4. Poppy
  5. Beatrice

  1. Beatrice
  2. Clara
  3. Sophie
  4. Phoebe and Poppy last equal

Beatrice I really like, and also consider the spelling Beatrix.

Clara to me is quite a romantic, storybook name - I think of Clara in Heidi and also the Nutcracker ... though there do seem to be quite a few lately.

Sophie is a nice name, but really, really heavily used.

Poppy to me is sort of cute but not really a "proper" name. I don't know why I feel that, because I don't mind flower names like Rose and Violet. Somehow it just sounds a bit like a noise: "pop."

Phoebe does have the benefit of being a proper traditional name, with a certain gravitas, but it's something about that "oe" it swings off in the middle that makes me think "amoeba." It also sounds a little bit like "feebly." Not an awful name, but for those reasons not one I'd choose.

Clara is my favourite. Not keen on the rest, sorry.

I actually like Poppy more than Clara, but I think it's an 'easier' name to have.

Beatrice

a long way further down, off any list...

phoebe. (Sorry to anyone who is one/has one) but I really dislike it.

i think though if you don't both love a name should keep looking because you just haven't found it yet.

Anything but Poppy. It's an okay name for toddlers, but it's a rubbish name for an adult.

It's hard enough for women to be taken seriously in the workplace. Poppy just isn't a serious name.

I doubt that will be the case by the time this baby is an adult.
