Still No Name for Baby Girl

Officially made it to two weeks with no name for baby girl and I feel beyond awful about it! Every name seems to have something about it that I don't like.

-Faye: love the name in theory, but calling her it seems awkward and clunky because of the single syllable and there being no obvious ways to make it seem affectionate

-Ruby: absolutely love it, sounds SO cute with our surname (Robson) but at #41 with 1020 girls given the name last year, it's more popular than my other children's names and I worry about her being surrounded by others with the same name

-Rosa: also love it, sounds incredibly classy and goes quite well with our surname (not as well as Ruby), but obvious nickname is Rosie which I don't like and is also very popular

Help me decide please! Also I'd love any other suggestions if anyone has any please. Had a couple of suggestions of Romilly on my last post which I thought was super cute but husband disagrees 🫠

What about Feydra/alt spelling? You could then nickname her Faye/Fae and have options of other NN's too.

Please don't do this. It will bring her lifetime of crap that comes with made up unusual names.

Kindnesscostsnothingtryit · 18/11/2025 23:19

Always so much traction on naming posts but all so often no replies from OP. Anyone else noticed this??

TheVoiceOfReason91 · 19/11/2025 05:26

If I remember correctly I think when both of our girls was born a name that got short listed was Ada it's an old Irish name I think but spelled the English way
Ps one daughter has an Irish name and the other a Japanese but we are both English it sounds weird to hear but we like unusual names lol another possibility was Anya

SqB · 19/11/2025 06:30

I think they are all lovely names, but if none sound right maybe back to the drawing board. I do think Ruby Robson is cute now, not sure I’d want a betty boop/minnie mouse style name in my twenties though x

KLRJ · 19/11/2025 07:17

Thank you so much everyone for all of your responses, it's been really helpful to hear some real world feedback on the popularity of Ruby. I think the decision fatigue, the whirlwind of life with a newborn and the post partum hormones and tiredness have had me picking apart every decision to a new extreme, so thank you all for helping me rationalise! I think she's going to be my little Ruby! 🥹

1020 Ruby's across the whole country for that year isn't very many 😆 what ever name you give them its completely pot luck if they will meet other kids with the same name. I grew up in a small school with 4 other Emily's, it didn't bother me in the slightest. I still know loads of Emily's and again I don't even think about it. Ruby is cute but will grow with her as she gets older, you like it and it goes with you surname 🤷‍♀️

If you like Faye but it’s not quite right, what about Faith?
I know a Rosa and she’s always called Rosa, never Rosie.

RoxyRoo2011 · 19/11/2025 07:32

Sorry, just thought of another - Remy? Remy Robson possibly works better than Ruby or Rosa. Although, if you like Ruby go with Ruby. It’s a beautiful name and not as common as you think. I chose a name that was not at all popular when he was born and so did a million others lol. I hear it ALL the time and he’s one of two in his class.

CelestialCandyfloss · 19/11/2025 07:40

I know a Rosa she's gorgeous and lovely and shes never called Rosie

RoseRedorDead · 19/11/2025 07:52

What about Fionne, nickname Fay or Fi?

Soccermom2020 · 19/11/2025 07:54

My lb is in pre school and there's only 1 Ruby I agree with the other posts it was more popular 2007/08 maybe it's a lovely name.
Also Evie is cute not 2 many either.
What about Mia
Ciara
Orla
Hope this helps it is a lot more difficult to pick out a girls name I think 2.

olympicsrock · 19/11/2025 07:59

All lovely names. None too common .
You could just call her Faye darling/ darling Faye.

How about you flip a coin , choose a name for a day and use it , the next day use another one. Try all three and see which you like most.
It’s win win here . Or use two that you love Rosa Faye, Faye Ruby with one the middle name

Horsemadlady1234 · 19/11/2025 08:34

Rosella

Chichichochi · 19/11/2025 08:45

Ruby Robson all the way!

TemuTrinny · 19/11/2025 08:51

Go for the name you love. Ruby Robson is a great name. My DD has a name with similar ranking in the list and she has gone through nursery, school and university without being in a class with the same name.

ArtistOfTheFloatingWorld · 19/11/2025 09:29

Pick the name you love. Don't get overly obsessed with how popular it is, it doesn't really matter.

ickystickybubblegun · 19/11/2025 09:37

Go with Ruby

Evie or similar is soooooo common around here! I know multiple Evies, Aoifes, Evelyns, Eves, Evas, Avas....

sharkstale · 19/11/2025 10:22

Another vote for Ruby. Lovely name and, if it helps, I have an 8 year old and in her entire life we've only met one other Ruby.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 19/11/2025 10:34

It's a no brainer. The perfect name is Bobbi.

I see you’ve probably decided on Ruby, which is a lovely name.

Just to add though, I have a teenage Rosa and she’s never been nicknamed Rosie by anyone. And I still love the name Rosa and think it goes beautifully with your surname - though so does Ruby, so you can’t go wrong!

Mulledjuice · 19/11/2025 10:47

Faye.

Faye-Faye for cuteness
