Still No Name for Baby Girl

KLRJ · 18/11/2025 12:32

Officially made it to two weeks with no name for baby girl and I feel beyond awful about it! Every name seems to have something about it that I don't like.

-Faye: love the name in theory, but calling her it seems awkward and clunky because of the single syllable and there being no obvious ways to make it seem affectionate

-Ruby: absolutely love it, sounds SO cute with our surname (Robson) but at #41 with 1020 girls given the name last year, it's more popular than my other children's names and I worry about her being surrounded by others with the same name

-Rosa: also love it, sounds incredibly classy and goes quite well with our surname (not as well as Ruby), but obvious nickname is Rosie which I don't like and is also very popular

Help me decide please! Also I'd love any other suggestions if anyone has any please. Had a couple of suggestions of Romilly on my last post which I thought was super cute but husband disagrees 🫠

how about Roisin or Rosalie
I wouldn't think of shortening Rosa to Rosie
Not keen on Rosie either but really like Rose

Roisin is a lovely name as long as the OP and partner know how to pronounce it…

Garamousalata · 18/11/2025 19:28

I love Rosa.❤️

Rosalie Faye
Romy Faye
Freya Rue

”Rue” as in “regret”? Because that’s literally what it means.
really?? Why would you do that to a child?

Zippidydoodah · 18/11/2025 19:29

I think you could call a baby Faye “Faye-faye” or something to make it sound diminutive. I really like Faye. And Rosa. Maybe Rosa Faye?

SixSeven · 18/11/2025 19:30

Phoebe is a good blend of Faye and Ruby!

Phoebe Rose Robson

Zippidydoodah · 18/11/2025 19:35

Ooh, how about Faya? I just looked it up to make sure it’s a real name 😂 I also know a little Raya, which I love.

TheBerry · 18/11/2025 19:38

Ruby Faye Robson is an awesome name. Sounds like a sci fi detective or superhero alias. Who cares if Ruby is popular.

Hohumdedum · 18/11/2025 19:45

If you love Ruby, use Ruby. No point choosing a unique name you don't like! Plus, we have multiples of several names in my child's class and I promise you would never guess what those names are! They are super rare, I'd never even heard them before! You just can't predict it.

I don't know any Rubies. I know loads of varients of Rosie. I adore Faye and it was on my list.

Ruby Faye Robson. Gorgeous. Great flow!

GilmoreGirly86 · 18/11/2025 19:52

Rosalie shortened to Rosa? But I don't think Rosie is a go-to nickname for Rosa on its own either. Any combination of Rosalie/Rosa Faye/Pearl is lovely. Faye is beautiful on its own as well though, I know a two year old Faye and she is an absolute doll. Maybe Effy as a nickname if you want one (incidentally, I know a baby whose given name is Effy).

Justmemyselfandi999 · 18/11/2025 19:55

I love the name Zara, I think Zara Robson sounds classy and elegant

Lavanda2428 · 18/11/2025 20:04

I have a Rosa, no one has ever called her Rosie! She's always Rosa.

Arlanymor · 18/11/2025 20:06

I would go for something new if you've not been able to agree on any of those three after two weeks.

How about:

Riley
Lacey
Audrey/Aubrey
Kitty

Normandy144 · 18/11/2025 20:12

You love Ruby so use Ruby. I mean this politely but you're over thinking this. As others have said with a name ranked #41 and just over 1000 babies called it the chances of your DD being surrounded by them is not huge. And if there is one in her year or class, what is the problem with that? No point going with a name you like less and then regretting it when she is older because you find out there's none in her class.

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 18/11/2025 20:18

I know two Ruby’s. One in DD’s class
and one belongs to a colleague (very different ages).

I only knew one person with my daughter’s name (colleague’s wife) despite it being a top 50 name. My mum said it was a popular name, we said not really. Then her friend’s son had a daughter two weeks later and called her the same name. My mum took that to mean she was right, I pointed out they loved 150 miles from us and would probably never meet each other 🤣

Only met two other girls with her name, one was on holiday in Cornwall and the other is the younger sister of one of my tutor group. I’m not aware of another child with her name in her whole school of 300 kids.

Dontpokethebearnow · 18/11/2025 20:18

My DS had no name for over 4 weeks so don't stress OP!
If you like Ruby choose Ruby, my DS has a rather common tradition name because it was the only one we could really agree on after 9 months of pregnancy and 4 weeks out the womb!

Although if you like Faye but not how short it is, what about Faith instead?
If I was suggesting new options then I like Millie and isn't super common I don't think? Elsie is a timeless, in and out name that can be spelt as pronounced too.

PenguinLover24 · 18/11/2025 20:19

I voted Ruby! I only know one and she is 10 (and I used to work with kids) If you like Faye what about Fia? (Mia with an F pronunciation lol) I know someone who spelt it Fiadh and I thought it was gorgeous as soon as I read it!

LoudPlumDog · 18/11/2025 21:49

Ruby is my pick.

suggestions:

Ruth
Ella
Melia
Amity
Amali
Violet
Hazel
Dana
Lucy
Iris
Sian
Kate
Zara
Cora
Mara
Norah
Opal

WhatJustHappenedCelia · 18/11/2025 22:12

Absolutely go for Ruby. It’s perfect with your surname, it’s a gorgeous name and, as a teacher for many many years, I’ve only ever taught one. And she was a gorgeous little girl! Go with your heart ❤️

Fiadh is just about the most common girl's name in Ireland atm. It was number one in 2021, my friend's granddaughter is called Fiadh.

Mauvehoodie · 18/11/2025 22:29

Rosa is just beautiful. I don’t think it’s long enough for Rosie to be inevitable. Ruby is lovely too but there are 2 in my DD year at school (reception) so that would put me off a bit.

HereintheloveofChristIstand · 18/11/2025 22:47

Faye Robson is a lovely name. Why does it need to 'sound affectionate'. Surely you will show her affection by loving her everyday, not by giving her a daft nickname.

SP2024 · 18/11/2025 22:54

Ruby is great and not that common anymore. Also love the suggestion of Tessa. It’s fiesty but still feminine

MummaR94 · 18/11/2025 23:05

How about Primrose? Or Rosalie?

JuvenileBigfoot · 18/11/2025 23:09

My childhood best friend is a Faye. We're in our 30s now and I still think it's lovely.

Spookily her middle name is Rosa!

Ladamesansmerci · 18/11/2025 23:13

How about Rosario? I think it's beautiful. I've known two and they are British but with Latin American heritage.

Given the variety of names in the UK, even with the most popular names, you aren't like to have more than a couple in a year group. It's not like the 90's anymore, where you had a class of Charlotte, Emily, Jessica, and Hannah! If you love Ruby, go for it.
