Can't decide on a name for baby girl

My second daughter is nearly two weeks old now and she doesn't have a name yet. I'm struggling to commit to one because I really regret my first daughters name and don't want to find myself in the same situation again. Please help me decide! Siblings names are Elysia (Lissy) and Harvey and our options are:

  • Faye (husbands top choice, I love this too but wish it wasn't single syllable, although I can't explain why that bothers me)
  • Lucia (c pronounced as chee)
  • Vienna
  • Selena
  • Felicity (would be my absolute top choice but it's too close to Lissy)
  • Madeleine

Of the choices you’ve written, Faye goes well with your other DCs’ names. It’s also one both of you like. I think the one syllable thing is irrelevant and is actually what makes the name go well with your other children’s.

I do prefer it spelt Fay though.

Love Madeleine. I have one nicknamed Madsy

CheeseIsMyIdol · 16/11/2025 13:50

Faye is lovely.

That's how I'd have pronounced it but hadn't considered that it was an alternative to Alicia. For what it's worth, I think it's a lovely name. My DD has a very similar sounding name.

Thank you, cannot tell you how happy that makes me 😂 The butchering we've had of her name drives me insane, she gets Eliza all the time and it's beyond me how people manage to mispronounce it quite that badly!

Madsy is incredibly cute as a nickname!

What about Freya, instead of Faye.

Or Verity instead of Felicity.

Mumofgirls2017 · 16/11/2025 15:25

I like Vienna and Selena

DinaofCloud9 · 16/11/2025 15:27

Elysia is lovely.

I like Faye and Madeleine best from your list.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 16/11/2025 16:11

@KLRJ , The butchering we've had of her name drives me insane, she gets Eliza all the time and it's beyond me how people manage to mispronounce it quite that badly!
It's because it is unfamiliar to them. They try to make something they recognise out of it. They'll match some of the sounds and add one or two.
Here are some:
Faye - Fern, Freya
Lucia - Luca, Lucy
Vienna - Sienna, Vienetta, Venetia
Selena - Serena, Celine, Sanela, Semolina
Elysia - Elise, Elisa, Eliza, Alicia (Alissia)

It happens to my name (missing or added letters, different sounds).

I'll admit to occasionally saying right letters, wrong order or only getting the first and last letter right.

El-iss-ee-ya

I regret spelling it that way so much, but got caught up on the fact the more standard UK spelling (Alicia) could be pronounced Al-ee-sha. We didn't call her Felicity because I didn't like the nn Lissy and then she ended up a Lissy anyway 🫠

The regret I have around her name is what's making this so hard for me I think!

Oh I see now. I like this spelling and pronunciation of it but I can see how it could be pronounced and spelled differently. One of my daughters has an old Irish name and there are many ways it gets spelled and pronounced incorrectly. I do regret that but ex husband and my other daughter picked out the name! My mil still calls her the wrong name and my daughter is in her 20s now!

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2025 16:22

What about Freya?

Cross between Faye and Felicity of sorts.

i live your DDs name.

form your list of don with Madeline (Maddie).

Wildflowers78 · 16/11/2025 16:27

Madeleine is definitely my favourite - a timeless classic and Maddie is a lovely nickname.

Hotdoughnut · 16/11/2025 18:47

KLRJ · 16/11/2025 13:38

Felicity nn Faye would be my ultimate dream but it's just how close Felicity is to Lissy that is holding me back! Watch my daughter turn around and say she wants a different nn 6 months after deciding not to use Felicity again!

Faye really isn't a nickname for Felicity

Why not? It's not a diminutive, but it could be used, just as Poppy could be used as a nickname for Penelope or Spike for Michael.

Ok....how does Spike come from Michael?

DuchessOfNarcissex · 16/11/2025 19:53

Nicknames don't have to come from the name. @Needmorelego . Spike from Michael is fairly obvious, Michael - Mike - Spike.

Nicknames are usually things like Twiggy or Lurch (The Royle Family), not Jim or Tony, which are diminutives.

Needmorelego · 16/11/2025 20:08

@DuchessOfNarcissex ok the Michael to Spike is a bit random and I could imagine is family specific.
Yes I know there is a difference between nicknames and diminutives.
I don't understand why someone would name a child Felicity but give the "nickname" of Faye because Faye is an actual name 🤔

Floam6 · 16/11/2025 20:11

what about Selena with nickname Leni…I think Lissy and Leni sound really lovely together.

LivingTheDreamish · 16/11/2025 20:47

Don't regret Elysia OP - it's really pretty and unusual. I understand why you didn't use Alicia as I never know how to pronounce it (and don't like the Aleesha pronunciation). So try to set aside your name regret as there is truly no need.

Felicity - phonetically very close to Elysia and you could easily end up with two Lissys.
Faye - feels a bit plain next to Elysia.
Vienna - makes me think of the ice cream dessert.
Lucia - nice but same pronunciation issues as with Alicia surely, and danger of very similar nicknames to Lissy.
Madeleine - nice
Selena- okay but I find Serena prettier

Fenella?

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 16/11/2025 20:50

I like Faye and Felucity.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 16/11/2025 20:51

Felicity

KarriTreeSullivan · 17/11/2025 11:14

Faye is lovely, but I get where you are coming from with the single syllable thing.

Madeleine is absolutely beautiful.

To me Selena and Felicity sound like friends and mean girls in the 90's. In fact I knew a mean girl called Felicity and she was known as Flick.

user1492757084 · 19/11/2025 13:00

Faye is best.
Faye Lucia would be a beautiful full name.

Calliopespa · 19/11/2025 13:23

BasilandTom · 16/11/2025 11:54

Not keen on Faye. It’s says 40 something woman to me.
Not keen on Vienna either. It’s too close to Vienetta to me and is a place name.
Lucia is beautiful, as is Selena and Felicity. Madeline is nice but very popular and are likely to go through school with several.
I like another person’s suggestion of Romily nn. Romi or Mily.

Faye says 40-something woman to me too.

I love Lucia with the "chee" pronunciation.

I also like Felicity and have only ever known Felicitys who were fun and vivacious.

Vienna I would say absolutely not. Its like Paris and Brooklyn but with the added complication of reminding me of a Viennetta. The only place name I think works is Florence - and maybe for me that's only because I learned about Florence Nightingale before I learned about the city.

CheeseIsMyIdol · 19/11/2025 14:06

Well, the baby will be a 40-something woman longer than she will be a cute toddler. Names must take the future into account, not just what is twee on a little kid.
