Please rank them favourite to least favourite.

Any negative connotations or thoughts that come to mind with these names?

Jasper, Jack, Dylan, Asher. They’re all nice names.

Which name goes well with your surname?

Onefortheroad25 · 16/11/2025 12:00

Please don’t call your kid Asher.

WonderfulSmith · 16/11/2025 12:02

I’m from the West Country so to me jasper means wasp.

I like it as a name but couldn’t use it because of that.
Dylan is a good name but frequently used.
Jack is everywhere.
Asher is more unusual.

therewasafishinthepercolator · 16/11/2025 12:08

Dylan
Jack
Both good names but I know lots of Jacks.

Don't like Jasper or Asher. Latter makes me think of bigoted bakers.

I really love Dylan. My kids still laugh at the the time I declared "If I had a boy I'd call him Dylan!" DS-Not-Dylan was bemused by that.

All sound like very different social classes

They really do!

PInkyStarfish · 16/11/2025 12:35

I love Jasper. Dylan is nice. Jack is ok but Asher is ghastly.

Reminds me of a horrible woman and her equally horrible children (now adults) one of which was called Asher and their surname was Price - Asher Price which quickly turned into Asda Price by the other children to take him down a peg or two as he was a thoroughly nasty bully!

Emanwenym · 16/11/2025 12:37

Dylan - good solid Welsh name, not overused Overused in the 1960s and 1970s. Welsh pronunciation is DULL-ann.

laughingnow · 16/11/2025 12:39

Jasper is the one xx

AutumnAllTheWay · 16/11/2025 12:44

Love Jack

Like Dylan and Jasper

Not Asher

I dont get why people are so against popular names, but each to their own

Jack is a solid, classic name, love it

Zitroneneis · 16/11/2025 16:15

Jack is THE most overused name from the early 2000s. Wasn’t it nr 1 for several years?

I don’t like any of your suggestions but would choose Dylan if I had too (although it reminds me of dill)

Because it’s a pain in the * to be one of many Jack Smiths or to be known as Jack H. It’s not only confusing but can also lead to identity fraud.

There are SO many beautiful names out there that will be far more memorable and identifiable!

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2025 16:19

Jack
Dylan
Asher
Jasper

AgnesMcDoo · 16/11/2025 16:20

Love jack. Dylan is ok. Don’t like the others

Rubbish.

Names are far more diverse now.

I know because I have a Jack!

Emanwenym · 16/11/2025 20:13

@AutumnAllTheWay , Because it’s a pain in the to be one of many Jack Smiths or to be known as Jack H. It’s not only confusing but can also lead to identity fraud.* is not rubbish.

Jack's a great name, but you can't say that there aren't an awful lot of them. It's been very popular for decades.
Jack name popularity

There are a lot of names out there, but when Jack was in the top 10 most used names, there were years when more than 10 000 were registered.

Barleycat · 16/11/2025 20:18

Biased as DS1 is dylan so obviously number 1. Jasper 2 (had a book as a child about a kite called jasper which no one has ever heard of). Jack boring and Asher- wtf.

Spidey66 · 16/11/2025 20:22

Dylan and Jack. I don’t like the others, sorry.

KarriTreeSullivan · 17/11/2025 11:03

Dylan - I prefer the Welsh language pronunciation but that won't work unless you live in a fairly Welsh speaking area. The English and far more common pronunciation is a really nice name too.

Jack - I'm not particularly keen as it's just so very ordinary, but there's nothing wrong with it. It's simple and a classic

Asher - It's ok, but a bit nothing. But it's growing on me the more I think about it actually. Ash is kinda cool too.

Jasper - Not a fan, it's a bit 'wet' or wishy washy and reminds me of that plonker in The Holiday.

ImFineItsAllFine · 17/11/2025 11:27

Dylan - love this, was on our shortlist.
Asher - like it a lot. will get shortened to Ash.
Jasper - nice but getting very popular
Jack - everywhere at the moment

Oooh: that's quite an outing/identifying😬 kind of post.

You've used the child's full name.

Needspaceforlego · 21/11/2025 00:08

Op the only one i dont like is Asher, reminds me of Dasher 🦌

If you really want Ash go with Ashley or just Ash. Although that could end up as Hash 😬
