Is it well liked?

It reminds me of David Lodge’s Nice Work, where a literature academic does a sort of work shadowing scheme with a local foundry manager, and there’s a mix-up because everyone at the foundry thinks a man is going to arrive because they think she’s called Robin Penrose rather than Robyn.

HaughtyAndCold · 29/10/2025 16:11

I love it, and have nothing but positive vibes for it.

Absolutely love the name Robyn (although, personally, slightly prefer the Robin spelling)

GingerPaste · 29/10/2025 17:39

I like it!

cotedazur28 · 29/10/2025 17:41

I teach a Robyn and she’s a delight.

NewEnglandWeekend · 29/10/2025 18:32

It makes me think of The Robin from The Chalet School books.

I like the name but not spelled with a Y.

34ransum · 29/10/2025 18:34

Christmas

Rihanna

I love it for a girl, hate it for a boy

strawberrymadam · 29/10/2025 18:43

I think it should be spelt Robin, but otherwise love it for both girls & boys.

Livpool · 29/10/2025 18:45

I like it - reminds me of both singers that I like (Rihanna’s first name is Robyn). It doesn’t seem to be a particular age either

SushiDisco · 29/10/2025 18:52

stripper on desperate housewives 🤣

In all seriousness I think it’s a lovely name, but prefer it for girls.

Grizelofthechaletschool · 29/10/2025 18:53

I’ve got a Robyn. I like Rob or Robbie as a nickname though - I think boys’ names on girls is cute!

pippapipps · 29/10/2025 18:54

My brother is Robin so to me I can't associate it with being a girls name

Marypoppinsisnosaint · 29/10/2025 19:06

My DD is a Robyn, born at Christmas so she's our little Christmas Robyn. We didn't know the gender when I was pregnant so wanted a unisex name however I now can't imagine it being a boys name 🤣

I'm biased, I love the name 😁

user2848502016 · 29/10/2025 19:13

I don’t like it for a girl, but do like Robin for a boy

Purplecatshopaholic · 29/10/2025 19:25

Robyn for a girl is lovely. Funnily enough I don’t like Robin for a boy at all.

OSTMusTisNT · 29/10/2025 19:30

It's ok, just.

The only Robyn I knew was a young girl in our Brownie group mid 1980's. Always seemed a very sickly looking child, no energy or vibrancy about her so not one I would choose.

Tiswa · 29/10/2025 19:34

A character from How I met your mother (which DS absolutely loves) and the strike books

though a previous PP has reminded me of Chalet School books

Elbowpatch · 29/10/2025 19:34

Of a cousin of mine. 1960s.

Aurora2023 · 29/10/2025 19:35

Love it. Elizabeth 1st alleged love interest Robert Dudley was given the affectionate name Robin by her. Apparently. So whenever I hear this as a name I think of a strong suitor being all windswept and romantic. Probably just me. But lovely for boy or girl in my view.

UtterlyOtterly · 29/10/2025 19:43

I think of the adorable and feisty granddaughter of a friend of mine.

Pranksters · 29/10/2025 20:32

I don’t like it at all. It just makes me think of some poor drippy child. Not helped that the only Robyn I vaguely know does an activity with my DC and every week seems to be ill with some affliction or another.

OverDram · 29/10/2025 20:33

Those birds on cheap Christmas cards

CoffeeBeansGalore · 29/10/2025 20:39

Apparently I would have been Robin if I was a boy. Really wished my parents had gone with Robyn for me. Far prefer it to the name I was saddled with!

Confusedmermaid1 · 29/10/2025 15:04

My other names have all been rejected by DH at the moment 😂 not sure if Robyn is a bit of an outlier because it’s sentimental for us both but other names I love are
Hazel
Sylvie/Sylvia
Lillith
Genevieve

Love Sylvia /sylvie, so pretty!

abracadabra1980 · 29/10/2025 20:40

Why call your little girl a boys name…
