It’s lovely, it’s the name of one of the most wonderful people I’ve ever met❤️

Gruffporcupine · 15/10/2025 17:01

Romy reminds me of a 00s emo girl. Not sure why!

I like Orla

Hoolihan · 15/10/2025 17:04

I love it and most of the others on your list especially Marnie, Esme & Margot.

blushroses6 · 15/10/2025 17:06

I have a baby Romy! I love it and feel like it works at all ages, we get lots of compliments on it too.

dontletmedownbruce · 15/10/2025 17:14

Very fashionable and also the name of one of Boris Johnson’s kids.

cordelia16 · 15/10/2025 18:34

I don't understand why people can't just say if they like or don't like a name without being rude about it.

OP, I think Romy is a cute name. From your list I also like Daisy and Orla.

helpwithname · 16/10/2025 08:24

Thank you for all your comments! Certainly a mixed bag 😂 I'd be so interested to know your ages because a lot of these comments sound like my mum (in her 60s) 🤣

I guess there is no "perfect" name and you just have to go with whichever name resonates with you the most!

I'm in my 50s, so I've seen trends come and go.
Daisy, Ava and Margot were frumpy when I was young. They seem a bit tired now - Ava especially. Like Romy, it's too associated with one actress.
The other names seem a bit 'current'.

I wouldn't use Orla because I'm not keen on using names from a language or culture with which I have no association, and I don't think they date well, and I think it's more a 1960s name in Ireland. That might just be my opinion.

Check for how the name sounds with the surname.

biiigoldslaap · 16/10/2025 08:44

Romy is a beautiful name, Op! It’s the best on your list although I do also like Orla. Not keen on the others especially Eden which makes me think of a nightclub and Marnie which there is something whiney about. I wouldn’t go with Bonnie either because of Bonnie Blue association which is a shame as it’s a nice name! In case you’re wondering I’m a millennial (so pretty far off 60!)

Handeyethingyowl · 16/10/2025 08:51

I like Romy, although to me it’s a French name so I’d not want to appropriate it but I know not everyone cares about that.

LittleBitofBread · 16/10/2025 09:34

I love Romy. I'd go for that.
Ava, Esme and Daisy: meh. I'm a bit over 'old lady' names.
Love Marnie.
Don't like Margot or Bonnie. Respectively make me think of The Good Life (nothing wrong with that, but not for a new baby's name) and dogs.
Eden is a bit 'Hollywood starlet'.
Orla is nice.

luckylavender · 16/10/2025 09:35

Used to like it until Boris & Carrie used it

dailyconniptions · 16/10/2025 09:56

statetrooperstacey · 15/10/2025 09:11

Romy is lovely, the world doesn’t need any more maggots.

Agree! Margot is done to death, as well as resembling grubs.

Emanwenym · 16/10/2025 12:00

@Handeyethingyowl , it's not French.

user1492757084 · 16/10/2025 13:12

Do you like Ebony?

Names I like best, inspired from your list ..
Rosemary
Rowena
Orla
Elsie
Dulcie
Daisy

Emanwenym · 16/10/2025 14:02

Do you like Ebony? Hmm

Cappuccino5 · 16/10/2025 19:36

Awful. Faddy and will date quickly considering how many Romys were born in 2024! Very nouveau riche.

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/10/2025 19:41

I really like Romy. Using my teacher measuring name stick - I have taught three and all were lovely, happy and bubbly girls!

smooshraspberry · 16/10/2025 19:53

DappledThings · 15/10/2025 09:05

Romy is ok. Will always associate it with lying about investing post-its though.

😂😂

Spookygoose · 16/10/2025 19:58

Love Romy! I actually thought of it after I’d named my DD and got a twang of name regret, although I do love the name I gave her, if I have another girl it’ll be Romy though!

janiejonstone · 16/10/2025 20:02

I've got a Romi, short for Romola. Both are family names. It's lovely, but it's also increasingly common - there are three others in the years below her at school. Also, many people can't pronounce it.

justaddittothelist · 16/10/2025 20:24

I prefer Remi, but I don't dislike Romy.

And from your list, Orla.

Im early 40's 🙂

Cinnamonbunn · 16/10/2025 20:38

I went to school with a Romy in the early 2000’s and always loved it.

From your list I also love Marnie and Eden.

mathanxiety · 16/10/2025 20:42

I love Romy.

The other name you list that I like is Bonnie.

I especially dislike Marnie.

mathanxiety · 16/10/2025 20:44

Handeyethingyowl · 16/10/2025 08:51

I like Romy, although to me it’s a French name so I’d not want to appropriate it but I know not everyone cares about that.

It's German/ Austrian, a diminutive of Rosemarie.
