My friend suggested this as a potential for my baby girl but I'm not so keen. Partner is on the fence, no stronger feeling either way.

@ChocolateCinderToffee you've never heard Macy as a name?
It's not that unusual and it wouldn't raise an eyebrow either in my world 🤷

YYYDlilah · 14/10/2025 20:19

It's gorgeous. You might like Beau-Lilah too.

Or Maci-Rae??
Lol

ChocolateCinderToffee · 15/10/2025 00:36

Never heard it unless it was referring to a New York department store.

RobertaFirmino · 15/10/2025 00:40

It says nothing about the poor child who bears that name but everything about the parent who chose it.

ThatsNotMyNameAlan · 15/10/2025 00:44

Names like that just sound made-up and chavvy. Kayleigh-Mai, Billie-Jai… awful.

CaroleLandis · 15/10/2025 00:56

Maci-Lea, a sister for Chardonnay, Armani and Princess Lacey.

As you look into her cot you can see her wearing her gold hoop earrings, baby headband with a ginormous bow and a sequin babygro with a wonky Chanel Logo emblazoned across the front.

How delightful!

coxesorangepippin · 15/10/2025 02:40

As bad as beau-lilah really

Also, maci sounds like macci's

Househassles · 15/10/2025 03:34

I like Léa/Leah all by itself. If you want to pronounce it 'lee' rhyming with 'glee' though, I'd use Lee or Leigh. Prefer the spelling Macy to Maci; it is traditionally a surname now used as a first name, but that's a pretty well established trend.

I don't understand why you and your partner are considering using a name neither of you particularly like just because your friend suggested it. Keep looking for something you both love.

Rhymes with Maccy-D so would be associated with burgers in my world.

That's what I read too. Middle name Mig-Lac

I'd imagine a child who is always dressed in pink probably Disney themed clothes, who's had her ears pierced as a baby. She's got a bow sellotaped to her head. Her parents didn't pursue higher education and may struggle with literacy.

I have a post grad, but I know plenty of clever and talented people who don’t have a degree. Disney isn’t chavvy either. I do agree that piercing a baby’s ears and naming them a double barrelled name that ends in Mae or Lea is chavvy.

I didn't say the parents weren't clever or talented. I said they hadn't pursued further education and likely struggled with literacy.

I also didn't say Disney clothes were chavvy. I didn't use the word chavvy at all.

user927464 · 15/10/2025 07:49

Horrendous. Poor white trash name. Your friend needs to stay well out of your name choosing discussions.

Also liable to get mispronounced as Maccy which will lead to comments about where she will end up working.

Jugjug · 15/10/2025 09:10

It would obviously be pronounced Maisie Leah not maccy Lee. Nothing wrong with those names tbh. probably overkill to have them both as the first name

some of the comments are harsh and I don’t mean about the name but what’s wrong with a little girl wearing pink and bows in her hair? And using teen mum as an insult when I’ve seen people on this site through a hissy fit when anyone mentions the link between Down syndrome and being in your 40s? And using white American trailer trash as an insult well fair enough but you just KNOW they wouldn’t dare use black American ghetto trash as an insult.

thread would of been deleted if it was about things mumsnettwrs like

opencecilgee · 15/10/2025 09:11

Maccy D?

Florencesndzebedee · 15/10/2025 10:53

It’s not a nice name and people will forever be spelling and pronouncing it wrongly. How about just Macy (that’s very American) or Leah or Leigh (used to be a boys name in my day though).

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/10/2025 10:56

Bigearringsbigsmile · 14/10/2025 20:17

It's not the chid I get an image of , it's the parents. It's really scally.

Absolutely this.

LemonJellyLegs · 15/10/2025 11:19

I read Maccy D

YYYDlilah · 15/10/2025 11:21

Maci-Lea - I know someone with a similar sort of name, and the Maci part looks at first sight as Macky not Macey. i know a few with the surname Lea and it's 'Lee'

The spelling Macy-Lee would be easier, but the hyphen is naff.
Maisie Leah or Maisie Leigh would be acceptable.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 15/10/2025 15:12

It's a nice sweet name. However I prefer the Leigh or even Lee spelling to Lea. I don't understand all this about chav name s any name can sound chavvy if it's screeched around Asda loud enough

YYYDlilah · 15/10/2025 18:27

@Awwlookatmybabyspider , if you saw the name Macy Leigh Smith, it looks a lot better than Maci-Lea. It screeched would sound like Maycilee, and it doesn't sound like a recognisable name.

I don't shop at Asda (the nearest one is huge and not a nice layout, plus I'd be going past Lidl to get there) but I've heard names like Noah and Daisy screeched across the park, which has not endeared the names to me.

StrongLikeMamma · 15/10/2025 19:14

I like Macy

The name Macy is of French origin and can mean "weapon" or "gift of God," deriving from both a place name in France and a variation of the name Matthew. It is typically a gender-neutral name but is more commonly used for girls today. Famous examples include American singer Macy Gray and the Macy's department store chain, founded by Rowland Macy.

StrongLikeMamma · 15/10/2025 19:14

Macy Leah is nice.

StrongLikeMamma · 15/10/2025 19:15

But not Maccy Dee’s

StrongLikeMamma · 15/10/2025 19:15

Or Gracie

ERthree · 15/10/2025 21:38

Oh my, she would have a Brother called Carter or Jaxon and a pet XL bully ?
