What's your opinions on the name 'Sorena' or 'Soraya' I like it, it's uncommon however in the UK what will people think and is there any other options I could use (not too common names)
I liked Lorena but people had some other associations with that name. I guess I like names ending in 'rena' or 'lena'

I've heard the male version "Soren" I like both names, they're unusual for the UK I'd imagine but not difficult to pronounce (assuming I'm pronouncing them correctly in my head!)

Sorena
malted fruit loaf

Soraya
Sounds like a country that might neighbour Libya

Lorena
pleasant but could also be a fabric softener

I really like Seren, the Welsh name, but it doesn’t have the vowelly ending you like.

Not sure on Lorena. It is a bit like Lenor. Is that the connotations you’re referring to?

No

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 07/10/2025 16:35

I know a Soraya and she’s lovely, so I like it.

GoldenPineapple15 · 07/10/2025 16:35

I taught a Soraya. I had never heard or before , but really liked it .

Doggybroc · 07/10/2025 16:35

Seriously, I would ignore that. If people are ignorant enough of geography, or indeed of the pronunciation of Sorena to make silly posts, that is their issue. There is nothing wrong with Lorena, Serena, or Soraya. I would stop posting and just go with what you like.

Oh dear, someone is rather literal 😆

Arlanymor · 07/10/2025 16:39

I think Audrina is really, really pretty.

ScruffMuffin · 07/10/2025 16:42

Soraya is great.
Lena, Serena, Irina, Catalina.

netflixfan · 07/10/2025 16:42

Same. I’d not heard it before but she’s so lovely and so is the name by association!

timoteigirl · 07/10/2025 20:05

Soraya is great. not too uncommon.

Motherofthreewildboys · 07/10/2025 20:14

My friends girl is Serena. The only one in our school I think too and she's Year 6.

Everleigh13 · 07/10/2025 20:17

I like Selena. Very pretty name.

Alexandrine · 07/10/2025 21:11

If you want an “ena” name then Helena is very traditional (used multiple times by Shakespeare in his plays), elegant and timeless imo. It’s internationally used but generally has the “Heh - len- ah” pronunciation in Britain. It would be my pick of the “ena” names.

Serena is also lovely and elegant (I think rare Sorena will get mistaken for it so would go for classic Serena of the two). Similar Selena is also nice.

Soraya is a beauty, quite exotic sounding.

I don’t hate Lorena, but I’ve only ever heard it in the States where it seems quite middle aged.

Carodebalo · 07/10/2025 22:11

Soraya reminds me of the Queen of Iran. I think it’s a lovely name.

Lights22 · 07/10/2025 22:12

Think about her having to spell it to everyone she comes across. Eg you could have Serena instead of Sorena

Needmorelego · 07/10/2025 22:13

Why not just Lena?
It's a nice name.

Olderbutt · 07/10/2025 22:19

How about Serena or Selena? I must admit that I thought of Malt loaf with Sorena, sorry!
