We're due a baby soon and have fallen in love with the name Cassian. We love the middle name Jack, but aren't sure if it goes. Please could I have your thoughts on Cassian Jack?

Ha, I liked Cassian before ACOTAR. I kept coming across names in those books which were on my boy list (boy is now 10). Apparently that's just my style of naming.

I think Cassian Jack is fine 🤷‍♀️ I wouldn’t have thought of Captain Jack at all (unless your surname is Sparrow).

I prefer Jack Cassian (simply as I find the nn “Cass” quite feminine) but that’s a personal taste thing, there’s nothing wrong with Cassian Jack - and actually I always think it’s quite nice to pair a more unusual/trendy name with a more popular/classic one.

OMFGSOB · 04/10/2025 01:16

Cassian (Cass) is great!

(Big Supernatural fan 😁)

I like PP's suggestion of Cassian Alexander

It doesn't matter what his middle name is OP, or if it "goes". Do people often refer to your middle name?

This. I don't think Cassian Jack flows particularly well, and I agonised over my baby's middle name, but I needn't have bothered! No one uses it and most people don't even know it!

rockettomarsbar · 04/10/2025 17:18

How about Cassian James? not dissimilar but sounds better. Also just in case he doesn't like his name when older then he's got a more mainstream middle name he could use.

Lemonadepie · 04/10/2025 18:39

Cassian is nice, but I don’t like Jack at all.

Darner · 04/10/2025 18:41

I love it, but not with Jack. Not that the middle name matters in life.

NameChangeForThisQuestionOnly · 04/10/2025 19:03

Cassian and Jack are both great solid names, I don’t think they go well together. I don’t think Cassian will sound good with any single-syllable middle name so pick something longer. E.g.,
Cassian Christopher
Cassian Nicholas
Cassian Benjamin
Cassian Elliot
Cassian Joshua
Cassian Elijah

It's dire. Cassian?? Jack is ok.

Cassian is quite popular - and far from a made up name.

I rather like it with Jack op, though like another pp I did think it had a Cotton-Eyed Joe feel. Cassian Jack sounds more like a pirate maybe! But nothing wrong with that!

thesnailandthewhale · 04/10/2025 20:20

Has Farrow and Ball vibes

Gruffporcupine · 04/10/2025 20:20

I really like it. 'Cass' is nice for short

ThatNaiceMember · 04/10/2025 20:27

Sounds like a whisky / whiskey to me

Kimbap · 04/10/2025 20:32

It doesn’t matter at all if it flows or not. No one says or uses their full name out loud in day to day life. It’s only new parents that give it any thought. Jut choose the names you like the most and as long as they don’t rhyme or sound silly then use them
Having said that it sounds nice to me

ThisRareOtter · 03/10/2025 20:28

How about Cassian Maxwell? Any pirate vibes?!

A little - you're still going with a second name that has the 'ack' sound and I don't know why, but that makes it sound piratey to me.

Caspian Alexander/ Oliver/ John were brilliant suggestions from upthread.

Cassian Thaddeus
Cassian Jasper
Cassian Orlando
Cassian Barnaby
Cassian Tobias
Cassian Jude
Cassian Vincent
Cassian Quinn
Cassian Conrad

Not for me. I think we might all be thinking piratey because Cassian sounds vaguely like Captain, then Jack as in Captain Jack Sparrow.

But I don't like Maxwell with Cassian. I think its the wrong vibe. Cassian has a romantic vibe and Maxwell sounds like an accountant.

Cassian Orlando sounds quite epic!

Though on balance I'd give him a James or Jack type name he can fall back on if he doesn't like Cassian.

AramintaWildbloode · 04/10/2025 21:39

Sounds like a tool.
Can you pass the cassian jack please?

Calliopespa · 04/10/2025 21:39

Slightyamusedandsilly · 03/10/2025 19:55

Meaning empty, hollow or curly haired.

Cassian sounds curly haired to me. Curls in the family op?!

Sounds like Hassian Sack 🙄

You mean hessian sack! Yes, it does!

Calliopespa · 04/10/2025 21:44

What is your surname like op? (Sparrow would be a real issue!)

user1492757084 · 04/10/2025 23:39

How is Cassian pronounced?
Cash-on or Cass-ee-on.

I hear 'Cassy and Jack' when I say Cassian Jack.
Cassian is quite nice. I like Cass.
I prefer Casper.

Casper Jack.
Cassian Jordan
Cassian Valentino

HugoYorway · 05/10/2025 10:39

@user1492757084 , Cass-ee-un. Some will say it as Cash-un.
