We're due a baby soon and have fallen in love with the name Cassian. We love the middle name Jack, but aren't sure if it goes. Please could I have your thoughts on Cassian Jack?

It sounds like a brand of fruity cider

Lonelycrab · 03/10/2025 20:23

Cassian is a great name.

That might be because I’m a Star Wars fan though. He was the guy that enabled the rebels to defeat the empire after all…

And Jack… let’s just say that name is also very close to my heart ❤️

TomatoSandwiches · 03/10/2025 20:24

Sounds like the name of an Ikea rug to me, but I like both names, just not together.

Sounds like Hassian Sack 🙄

Totally fair if you don't like the name, but at least get the spelling of the insult right 🤣

I met an adult Cassian recently and thought what a beautiful name it was and Cass as a shortening is great too. But I agree it needs a longer middle name…at least two syllables.
Cassian Peter
Cassian Matthew
Cassian Fraser
Cassian Joseph
Cassian Lucas
I like Cassian Theodore but might be a little long.

ThisRareOtter · 03/10/2025 20:28

How about Cassian Maxwell? Any pirate vibes?!

OP posts:
Shinybrightdarling · 03/10/2025 20:48

I love the name Cassian and I like almost all the middle names suggested on this thread - apart from Jack and Maxwell!
Cassian Alexander is my top pick but if you don’t like that how about Cassian Milo? (I think Milo has the same kind of vibe as Maxwell).

BlueberryLatte · 03/10/2025 20:53

I also don't like Maxwell. I'd go with something less fussy for a middle name with Cassian. Just not Jack

surprisebaby12 · 03/10/2025 20:54

Cassian Jack is gorgeous. It will get criticism but don’t let that put you off, they are both proper names and go together well

Complet · 03/10/2025 20:55

Probably not a popular opinion, but I think middle names are for remembering family, or something really important to you. Nobody uses their middle names. Are you really going to be shouting out their first and middle names in a playground or at school? I always get a very minor surprise when I pick up a prescription with my child’s full name on it. It’s not what I call them, and honestly I probably wouldn’t bother with a middle name if I had another. It seems to dilute the proper name. Unless it’s a family or big important name for you, don’t just give them a middle name for the sake of it. There’s nothing cool about that story when they tell friends growing up. Who wants to be saddled with an ‘Anne’ or ‘James’ just for the sake of having to pick a middle name.

ThisRareOtter · 03/10/2025 21:01

I agree middle names aren't a necessity at all, but our other children have a middle name so I think I'd feel bad if this one didn't! I obviously don't want to pick something terrible though, so I appreciate all the suggestions here, thank you

No im completely with you.

That’s exactly how middle names in our family are used. My ds has an incredibly unusual middle name; it has a strong family tie. Ditto my brothers family middle names he has chosen.

I don’t have one, my siblings do. I’ve always felt a bit special not having one!!

TomatoSandwiches · 03/10/2025 21:10

Do you have any family names on either side that you could use? Even your maiden name or you could do a family tree, have some fun and pick something from the far past?

Pieceofpurplesky · 03/10/2025 21:17

Cassian is a great name. Cass for a NN. Massive Andor fan though!!

We've got pretty small families so not really (unless Bernard is coming back in 🤣), but maybe we could look further back than the immediate family!

I love Cassian. He will have friends everywhere

fairycupcakes · 03/10/2025 21:41

I think Cassian sounds great, Cassius too. The name meaning is a little unfortunate but I’m sure it’s not something you need to give too much thought to! Love the nn Cass.

agree with it not quite going with Jack for the reason PPs have said.

how about:

Cassian Oliver
Cassian Adrian
Cassian Maximus
Cassian Alexander
Cassian Thomas
Cassian James
Cassian Marcus
Cassian Nicholas
Cassian David
Cassian Archer

RuthW · 03/10/2025 21:53

Cassian Jack is lovely.

Househassles · 03/10/2025 22:02

It sounds like a variety of cheese to me. I think first name adjective middle (or worse, last) name noun is always tricky, and the fact that the middle name here is actually a diminutive (although I don't love Cassian John either) makes it more questionable. Just for example Cassius Jack or Cassian James gives quite a different impression. But then again, who'd going to really know or use the middle name?

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/10/2025 22:15

Cassian George
Cassian Jake
Cassian Luke
Cassian Oscar
Cassian Louis
Cassian James
Cassian Leo
Cassian Jude
Cassian Arthur
Cassian Lewis
Cassian Rhys
Cassian Miles
Cassian Hugo
Cassian Theo

Sounds like a pirate.

My first thought too.

tinytemper66 · 03/10/2025 22:17

Sounds like a vodka or rum brand

I can tell what books you read 😅

Yep, it’ll be hilarious when all these ACOTAR named babies grow up and read the smutty sex scenes their mums enjoyed so much 😂
