Hi everyone
I'm now 25 weeks pregnant with a little girl. We have a 2 year old daughter called Freya and DH and I have become a bit overloaded with names. Love the sound of some names but they are just way too popular such as Olivia, Isla. I want something less common not necessarily unique I've looked at some name lists but need some help with suggestions. Our lists keep changing my DH has happily settled on a couple of names which I've then vetoed probably thanks to my hormones.

At the moment my favourite is Norah but this tends to change quickly. I also like Abigail, Alisha, Sylvie, Heidi, Erin, Niamh and Mara not a definite list so open to other names. Just hoping to see one and think that's the one.

Most of your names are lovely, but Norah just makes me think of Nora Batty. To me it is a really ugly old fashioned name!

Mara is unusual, but I am not sure Freya and Mara sit well together, too many a's

Abigail, Alisha, Sylvie, Heidi, Erin all good names.
and so are Olivia and Isla

Summer8summer8 · 10/09/2025 11:33

Nancy and Rose is nice.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 10/09/2025 11:36

Norah is quite nice but I think 'Flamin' Norah' or 'Nora Batty'.

Abigail - like
Alisha - ok but Alicia, Aleesha etc
Sylvie - dated
Heidi - like
Erin - mean girl vibes
Niamh - ok but I know too many my age
Mara - sounds miserable

Squishydishy · 10/09/2025 11:36

steppemum · 10/09/2025 12:25

Mara - sounds miserable

that's funny, because it is a Hebrew name and it means 'bitter'

DuchessOfNarcissex · 10/09/2025 13:13

@steppemum , I know it does but Mary and Maria don't sound miserable.

steppemum · 10/09/2025 14:39

DuchessOfNarcissex · 10/09/2025 13:13

@steppemum , I know it does but Mary and Maria don't sound miserable.

I didn't realise Mary and Maria were the same root.
I was thinking of the story of Naomi where she says - call me Mara because my life is so bitter!
But that is quite niche, so I wasn't expecting anyone else to think it sounds sad!

redvelvet9 · 04/12/2025 21:18

I love Abigail.

Also very big fan of Heidi.

I used to work with an Abigail, everyone called her Abs or Abi. One day her mum phoned up and said 'can I speak to Abigail please' and I thought I'd never really thought of her as an 'Abigail', but I thought it sounded so lovely I called her Abigail from then onwards! No one else apart from her mum did though!

Norah seems a bit dowdy to me somehow.

I like Erin and Mara, lovely names. There's also Marnie as a suggestion, or Elodie (might have had it's moment)? Clara is also getting suggested a lot on here at the moment, I'm a big fan but I'd be worried if it was about to become a trend if Mumsnet is anything to go by.

Congratulations and good luck!

KarriTreeSullivan · 08/12/2025 16:46

Just realised this is from September, sorry! why do these old ones always pop up?!

DuchessOfNarcissex · 08/12/2025 16:54

@KarriTreeSullivan , OP says "I'm now 25 weeks pregnant with a little girl.", so she might still be looking for a name.

No update?
i’m all ears! What did you chose?

Giraffehaver · 27/03/2026 22:25

Your names are great. How about Freya and Nancy?

looksopretty · 27/03/2026 22:52

Mara is gorgeous and not common at all. Also like Heidi x

froglet46 · 27/03/2026 23:18

Heidi and Erin are gorgeous. Both were on my list. I think either go beautifully with Freya too which is also a great name. You have good taste!

If I was forced to pick I’d say Heidi, it just conjures up such lovely images of a strong, little rough and tumble girl in nature to me.

OopsieeDaisy · 27/03/2026 23:21

I was going to say Freya and Amber but have just seen you will have had your lovely baby girl by now. Would love to know what name you picked!

Cooperboom32 · 28/03/2026 21:38

Thank you for all the lovely comments and suggestions. She was almost Slyvie or Erin but a different name sneaked into our list and she suits it so well. We called her Eilidh pronounced (Ailee)
