Names like Roger and Alan…?

My DH has terrible taste in names! When I had my first boy, the names he liked were Roger, Alan, Norman (!) We settled on John (as modern as he would get). I’m pregnant again, don’t know the sex yet, but looking for any boy names with a similar vibe but a bit more palatable. I like traditional/biblical names like Joseph, Thomas, Daniel FYI. Any suggestions…?

What's the difference in pronounciation between Allen and Alan? I didn't think there was any...

Well, technically there isn't. But there is subtle difference in pronunciation if words are spelt different.

So, if you think about it. Ball and Bawl : same "word" technically, but you would pronounce it slightly different, exaggerate the sounds in different places (I'm no lexicologist, so can't explain it in a clever way but I hope you get my drift )

So to me : Allen has a slightly softer sound than Alan.

Really like David and also have a soft spot for Ronald. Know a really lovely 85 year old Alan so would also favour that. But my darling dad was an Arthur, would have been 100 years old, so absolutely love that x

Robert is great and has several potential diminutives if you want to go down that road. DH is Robert and goes by Bert or Bertie - which I hated when I first
met him but now kinda like but Bert is serious old man vibes!
