Milo or Axel

Hey,

I'm due baby number 2 and we're really torn between names

We currently have an Otis

We are torn between Axel or Milo

The middle name will be James and I'm just unsure on the MJ reference. Also I know a lot of people that have dogs names Milo which has put me off a bit.

Axel I'm worried about it being too different and being judged for it.

Please help with your opinions!

.

Milo or Axel
wandawaves · 24/08/2025 03:54

Neither.

BoleynMemories13 · 24/08/2025 07:15

Out of the two, Milo.

I've never liked Axel, due to the harsh sound (and visual confusion with Alex). First thought now when I hear it is the awful atrocity in Southport last year. The name slipped right down the ONS charts last year, so I think many people had the same thoughts in the second half of last year and I expect it to keep falling this year.

Waggytail · 24/08/2025 09:19

Axel just makes me think of Southport.

Milo is cute, but know a lot of dogs called Milo.

Micah?

Eenameenadeeka · 24/08/2025 09:41

Milo

marshmallowfinder · 24/08/2025 09:44

Axel is awful and part of a vehicle. Milo is nice. What about Asher?

timoteigirl · 24/08/2025 09:44

I like them both but I think Axel goes better with Otis with a strong consonant whereas Milo sounds a softer name.

MiniCoopers · 24/08/2025 10:32

We have a Milo, he finds it hilarious that so many dogs are called Milo (thankfully)

HelloHattie · 24/08/2025 10:40

Axel.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 24/08/2025 13:19

I'm not keen on Otis so we probably have quite different tastes.

I love Miles but don't like Milo (like pp it makes me think of the drink).
Axel is not a favourite but it's ok (I think axle grease).

pambeesleyhalpert · 24/08/2025 13:25

Axel!

GonnaeNoDaeThatJustGonnaeNo · 24/08/2025 13:27

James is great

Milo isn’t and Axel is awful.

DuchessOfNarcissex · 24/08/2025 14:27

Use James as the first name. It's the go to middle names for boys, which means it will probably be every other Milo or Axel's middle name.

BananaBananas · 24/08/2025 14:30

I really like Axel!

DurdleSnore · 25/08/2025 12:08

Axel 100%. I know so many dogs called Milo.

MindytheWonderHorse · 25/08/2025 12:10

Much prefer Milo and don’t know what the MJ reference is. Axel sounds like a German porn star from the 70s.

Peculiar23 · 25/08/2025 12:16

Axel is the Southport killer and axel rose was an anagram of oral sex - no

sardinesonpost · 25/08/2025 14:24

Milo for sure

autienotnaughty · 25/08/2025 14:30

Both fab names

Timeforabitofpeace · 25/08/2025 14:30

Milo.

MK19590 · 25/08/2025 14:36

I like Milo more but honestly either is fine, Axel has got more popular recently whereas Milo has been steady for a few years.

Are today's generation of kids really going to make the Axel Rose connection or would they not know who he is. I also don't think anyone would even notice the MJ thing

What is the "MJ" thing?
I don't know what that means.

Probably Michael Jackson?

I am assuming OP is concerned that the initials MJ will make a Michael Jackson association. But since most people don't seem to believe/care that he was a child abuser I don't think it's going to matter in the slightest

I actually do think Michael Jackson was a child abuser but I wouldn't make a connection between someone being called "MJ" and Michael Jackson.
It seems really random.
I was watching an old episode of Desperate Housewives recently and there's a child character called MJ.
It really isn't a link I would even think of.
