Henry would be my first pick to go with Toby. They sound like brothers. Or Wyatt. Or maybe something longer, like Zachary or Anthony. Not all four letters though. Jack, Iain, Liam, John, Andy, they’re pretty uncontroversial names. Finn is a nice four lettered name but doesn’t really sit mellifluously with Hall.

I actually think most names go with Hall, and the ones with four letters sound more abrupt. Is there a reason for the four letter rule?

@JLH2B26 Don't get obsessed with four letter names.

James, Edward, etc - steer clear of the fanciful.

I’d go for a strong constant ending second syllable at the end of the first name otherwise the names get a bit merged together. Rory Hall for example is a poor sounding choice.

I think you need 2 syllables or it can start sound like one word with Hall
Toby & Adam Hall
Toby & Alex Hall
Toby & Ewan Hall
Toby & Eric Hall
Toby & Leon Hall
Toby & Rudy Hall
Toby & Theo Hall

If you're willing to go longer:
Toby & Edward Hall
Toby & William Hall
Toby & Oliver Hall
Toby & Oscar Hall
Toby & Charlie Hall
Toby & JamesHall
Toby & Jasper Hall
Toby & Rufus Hall

I'd check that there are no buildings called Name Hall.

I think you need a name with strong sounds in it, and two syllables are probably better. Names that can be shortened probably will.

Toby is great.
Names like Luca, Arlo, Rory and Theo are too vowelly.
Oliver is nice but Olly Hall isn't.
Kit, Max and Sam are too short.

Yes Joseph Hall sounds lovely

Ahh just read the 4 letter preference Joseph could be Joey or just Joe
Or Liam goes with Toby

HugoYorway · 19/08/2025 12:05

Joey Hall doesn't sound very strong. It's too vowelly.
Joey and Toby are a bit too close in sound.
