Kind of links, not strong. It's a name of a place in Cornwall.

Ooh it is - and means “hill fort”

i think it’s quite cute, but then I havered over Gertrude for a girls name, so I might not be the wisest of advice 😂

@ExistentialThreat , it's the name of a Cornish hamlet that Winston Graham borrowed to name a character in a novel. WG died in 2003.
Meaning, origin and history of the name Demelza - Behind the Name

I wouldn't use it

ExistentialThreat · 14/08/2025 09:54

@BillieNoM888 - ah, I did not know that! Still love it though. Although I think my favourite Cornish name is Loveday.

Avocadohoho · 14/08/2025 10:38

I don’t like it, it’s harsh sounding. I know one and she uses a nickname.

INeedAnotherAlibi · 14/08/2025 10:42

I went to school with a Demelza. If anyone commented on it being unusual she’d just shrug and say ‘My Mum loves Poldark!’. She did have to spell it out to people though.
I do like the name. If you love it, go for it!
When I was pregnant, I loved the idea of Bellatrix. H was a firm no! 😆

dotdotdotdash · 14/08/2025 10:46

I agree it has a witchy vibe… I know you didn’t ask for suggestions but regardless, Kezia or Beatrix have a similar feel

Navigatinglife100 · 14/08/2025 11:06

I was going to be a Kezia! Until I was actually born and Mum said I was too scruffy haired for a Kezia and changed it completely before registering me!

dizzydizzydizzy · 14/08/2025 11:11

I know it as children's hospice.

Nope. Demented Demelza for me, sorry (although tbf there are far worse names out there). I do like other names used in Poldark like Morwenna and Verity though.
