We both do really love the name but are worried that it is perhaps too boring, what does everyone think?

We also like Hazel, Alexis and Alara.

I much prefer Alara or Hazel

Apologies, but before opening the thread, the first word that came into my mind was Boring

nopiesleftinthisvehicle · 14/08/2025 00:27

I like it.
Other considerations: Grazia (Italian)
Charis/Kharis (Greek)

Spinachpastapicker · 14/08/2025 00:28

It’s meh. Yes timeless classic blah blah but still totally meh.

Alexis is cool. My favourite of your options.
Hazel is pretty. Seems to be having a bit of a moment as far as names go.
Alara will spend her life correcting people that it is not Lara or Alana.

ChangingWeight · 14/08/2025 00:31

I think it’s a basic name, definitely not classy or beautiful as you can probably find hundreds of individuals called Grace that are the opposite!

user1492757084 · 14/08/2025 02:30

Grace is the best of your names, lovely.

Lancrelady80 · 14/08/2025 02:35

Nice, but seriously over-used, as is Gracie and a whole load of variants of Something-Grace. It also immediately imposes expectations on the child to live up to their name.

Alexis = 80's soap opera, big hair, big shoulder pads.

Alara - haven't heard it but don't like it. Clara or Alannah instead, maybe?

Hazel is nice but a bit staid.

JillyGiraffe · 14/08/2025 03:57

Grace is lovely and I’ve never met a baby or child with the name! It’s a timeless name and you both love it - go for it!

Soupsipper · 14/08/2025 04:11

I think it's boring, but people love it!
People also think it sounds soft and beautiful but I think it sounds harsh. I don't like Gr sounds because of this

CurlewKate · 14/08/2025 04:12

It was the unusual but not odd possibly another one in the school but not in the class people will say “oh that’s lovely-haven’t heard that for ages!” name we chose for our dd nearly 30 years ago! That went well….. We still love it though and so does she. She’s not an “overweight emo” though….🤔

Dandelionsand4leafclover · 14/08/2025 07:03

Love it

EveSix · 14/08/2025 07:22

Primary school teacher who has never taught a Grace, in nearly 30 years. I suppose it depends where you work.

I love the concept of Grace, so think it is a beautiful name, but in terms of the sounds within it; for me it is like a BINGO of harsh sounds, including the vowel diagraph (a-e), all sounds I actively ruled out when naming my own DC. So I'm in two minds about it.

Congratulations all the same.

BCBird · 14/08/2025 07:47

Timeless and elegant

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 14/08/2025 07:55

Love it

Els1e · 14/08/2025 09:10

Love it.

HollyGolightly4 · 14/08/2025 09:17

That's amazing @EveSix . I reckon I've taught about 50 (high school core subject) and there's 50 more besides in the school over the last 15 years.

I think by itself it's a lovely name, but given context (other children, not to mention Gracie's, what if the child isn't graceful) it's not one id go for.

I think Hazel is lovely. I prefer Lara to Alara.

I really like Alexis too, because I love the nickname Lexi, but I don't know if it's too similar to Alexa!

ohidoliketobe · 14/08/2025 09:18

DD3 is a Grace. I had concerns it was a bit bland and a virtue name, but we didn't agree on anything else, other DCs have traditional names so it fit with theirs, and honestly was just done with thinking of names by that point.
She is almost 5, and is a very petite, kind, caring, calm and considered little girl so really suits it. Also, whilst a traditional name, in our area at least it isn't popular in the under 10s age group. We haven't come across another one in our DCs school (2 x 30 class entry so a large primary) or any of their clubs.

Emanwenym · 14/08/2025 10:05

Grace - ok but might not suit a clumsy or sullen child. Boring as a middle name
Hazel - ok (but makes me think of Watership Down)
Alexis - unisex but the only one I know (named pre-Dynasty) is female
Alara - looks like a car model. Toyota Alara? I don't like it.

Grace was seriously old fashioned when I was young, so that puts me off.

Avocadohoho · 14/08/2025 10:32

Boring. There’s so many Grace’s and Gracie’s. And it’s overused as a middle name, along with Rose and May it’s always ‘something’-Grace.

Can’t stand Hazel but Alara is nice and not heard everywhere.

Houndymumma · 14/08/2025 10:33

It’s lovely. ☺️

OxfordQuestion · 14/08/2025 10:34

Love

Ketzele · 14/08/2025 16:47

I like Hazel best

ginasevern · 14/08/2025 17:55

I love the name Grace. It's timeless and elegant. Sorry OP, but the same can't be said for Alexis which is a bit footballer's wife or (if you're as old as me) a character from Dynasty. Alara sounds made up/try too hard. Hazel is quite pretty.

Pigsinblankets13 · 14/08/2025 18:54

Boring

Much prefer Alara

Handrearedmagpie · 14/08/2025 19:12

Nothing wrong with it but it's one of those names I irrationally hate. It's just too much of a nothing sounding name to me!

Meem321 · 14/08/2025 19:18

Have you considered any other virtue names? Grace is very popular and she'll probably have another one in her year group...
Faith
Constance
Verity
Trinity
