Annalise (Anna) - just call her Anna
Charlotte (Lottie) - just use Charlotte
Aurelia - I don't like it
Adalia (Ada) - I don't like it
Lily - she'll be Lil.

Gundogday · 11/06/2025 23:26

Annalise (Anna) - nice name
Charlotte (Lottie) - nice name
Aurelia - ok
Adalia (Ada) - read this as ‘ A Dahlia’, dislike
Lily - ok

NuffSaidSam · 11/06/2025 23:31

Anna is lovely, but I don't like Annalise

Charlotte is fine, if a bit dull, but I really don't like Lottie.

Aurelia is too frilly for my tastes.

Not keen on Adalia or Ada.

Lily is fine. Nice, even.

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/06/2025 04:40

Annalise (Anna) - nice (prefer Anna)
Charlotte (Lottie) - nice
Aurelia - too frilly for me and no nice shortenings
Adalia (Ada) - not keen, prefer Ada
Lily - nice

loobyloo1979 · 12/06/2025 05:15

I think Anna, just Anna, is the perfect name. It’s simple, elegant, easy to spell and remember, stylish, and classy. It’s a name that is understood globally and will never go out of fashion.

BoleynMemories13 · 12/06/2025 06:13

I prefer just Anna and Ada. Frilly names aren't for me and both of these work nicely as stand alone names so if you're going to call them that you may as well use them on the BC.

I love Charlotte but Lottie is very twee. I prefer Charley.

Aurelia is not for me at all. It's overly fussy and many people struggle to pronounce it.

That leaves Lily. Simplistic and stylish. Unless you'd consider Anna or Ada as a stand alone name, I'd go for Lily.

Mumofgirls2017 · 12/06/2025 07:32

Aurelia 🌟

Charlotte (Lottie) - just use Charlotte
Aurelia - I don't like it
Adalia (Ada) - I don't like it
Lily - she'll be Lil.

I know several Lily/Lillie's. None are Lil.

Aurelia 🌟

I like Aurelia. A good Roman name!

It’s classic and feminine yet tbh I don’t see it as fussy as some have said because the Au and re sounds are quite austere. The “lia” is just the right touch of softness.

I don’t like Adalia. It looks like “A Dahlia” or Azaria which makes me think of that poor little Australian baby that was eaten by a wild dingo ( Meryl Streep movie).

Eenameenadeeka · 12/06/2025 11:24

I like Anna on its own, or Annabelle over Annaliese.
Lily is pretty, I think I'd do Lillian and use Lily.

Givemethesun · 12/06/2025 11:30

Thanks everyone some helpful comments. There are reasons for the suggested long version names which I haven’t explained. I don’t actually love any of the names 100% and some I am really on the fence about anyway so wanted to test the waters. It’s so hard! Also need to fit in the name with dc1 (also a girl!)

I love just Lottie, but appreciate that mumsnet hate people using a "nickname" as a full birth certificate name. Anna is lovely too. I like Aurelia, it's very pretty written down, but I always struggle pronouncing it - it might be my accent though.

I agree with all these comments which is making it hard to decide 🙈 nothing is quite 100% right

My favorite from your list is Annalise, followed by Lily :)

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 13/06/2025 00:38

Annelise - lovely

don’t like the rest

Ida perhaps?

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 13/06/2025 00:39

Or Adela?

aquadog · 14/06/2025 19:36

I love Anna as a name! I would probably drop the longer version and go with that. A strong, confident classic,

CharlieBoo · 14/06/2025 19:53

Charlotte is by far the nicest. Ada is also nice but popular. No Lily I know is a Lil, but known
by her surname. Ridiculously popular and overused.

AdaColeman · 14/06/2025 20:13

I love Anna, but I'm not keen on Annalise at all.
Charlotte and Lottie are nice, if a little staid.

I can see some pronunciation problems with Adalia, it's not a name I like, though I do like Ada. Have you considered Adelaide?
Lily is already hugely popular, so I wouldn't use it.

Hazelmaybe · 14/06/2025 20:19

My favourite is Charlotte.

Fantasticfrollics · 14/06/2025 20:56

Aurelia is beautiful. Ada and Lily are everywhere!

Givemethesun · 14/06/2025 21:21

Thanks all. We have another 20 weeks to decide but DH and I narrowed it down to Aurelia and Lily over the weekend. I expect in 2 weeks time I’ll have gone off both and will prefer another 2 on my list.

it’s either 1) doesn’t go with dc1
name 2) like the name but it’s very common 3) like the nn (lottie) but not blown away by full name and want a full name or 4) worried others won’t be able to pronounce.

Grrrr It’s so hard I wish we had a stand out name that we just loved!

typing this out I’ve actually gone back to Anna as a preference 😂

@AdaColeman Adelaide I’m not that keen on. Adeline I really like but doesn’t go with dc1 name. Thanks for the suggestion.
