Due later this year with a boy and have NO idea what to call him!

We love Ludo but saw someone’s dog was called Ludo and now can’t help but think of it as a dogs name?

Also love Harrison but my DH knows a Harrison who was a bully at school so he can’t come around to it.

I love Ralph but not sure it hits the spot…

Also love the name Joss but can’t use it!

Hit me with any and all suggestions!!

What about Luca?

SunnieShine · 14/06/2025 10:36

Actually, I like it. Unusual but not silly.

musicalfrog · 14/06/2025 10:38

Luke or Luca

NeverHadHaveHas · 14/06/2025 10:41

Wasn’t it the name of Kate and William’s spaniel?

slinkiemalinkiey · 14/06/2025 10:50

Ludo is a game.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 14/06/2025 10:51

One of my favourite children's books was 'Ludo and the Star Horse', so I have good associations with the name.

I think it'd be seen as unusual, but not eyebrow raising unusual.

spottydinosaur · 14/06/2025 11:32

I know a Lupo no idea if it is short for anything

earlgreyandlemon · 16/06/2025 16:51

I know a child called Ludo, I think it's nice and he really suits it.

I think he was originally going to be Ludovico, but they decided to just go with Ludo because that's what they wanted to call him day to day. So it's not short for anything - just Ludo.

I love that it means 'play'.

CurlewKate · 16/06/2025 16:54

Ivo?

Channel4IsShit · 16/06/2025 17:03

Don’t listen to these naysayers. Ludo is great.

But not as good as ‘Monopoly’, ‘Draughts’, ‘Backgammon’, or ‘Craps’.

If I have a boy ‘Yahtzee’ will be top of the list.

SunDash · 16/06/2025 17:05

Ludovic, or Ludovine from a girl

GoldenRosebee · 16/06/2025 17:29

I think people here are kinda narrow-minded. Ludo as a name is nickname for Ludovic, but game isn't known as Ludo in any other language but English and not outside Britain.
I would personally prefer Ludovic over Ludo.

You beat me to it 😂

Short for Ludovic. Proper name. Whyever not?

Mademetoxic · 16/06/2025 18:28

Jesus Christ. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

NormasArse · 16/06/2025 18:32

I work pt in a nursery- it’s by no means the most unusual name I’ve heard. Anything goes !

Sandy420 · 16/06/2025 19:31

Ludo is awful for a child but great for a dog IMO. I'm not keen on Ralph either. Love Rafe and Luca.

AFrolicOfMyOwn · 16/06/2025 19:41

Perhaps it’s a generational thing?

For me (60s) having grown up hearing it as a diminutive for names like Ludovic or Ludwig, and seeing it in novels and magazines and newspapers, it’s a perfectly recognisable (and lovely) man’s name.

So I will try not to draw the conclusion that all the shocked reactions indicate a lack of reading / travel / whatever - and simply assume it’s fallen out of fashion!

This. My son has one of the names referred to on this thread as 'posho'. If I'd been lucky enough to have had a second child who was make, Ludovico (Ludo for short) would have been on my list. We're an Italian family, and Ludovico is a perfectly normal name.

piscofrisco · 26/06/2025 22:07

Our dog is called Ludo. But I think it works equally well for a human boy.

CatsArePeople · 01/07/2025 18:01

Ludwig? Louie?

ADHDQueen · 01/07/2025 19:16

Or Snakes & Ladders?

IS the full name Ludovico? Its a really nice name in Italy and they tend to shorten them, so its more of the nickname
