Hi there

Hoping for some thoughts on the following boy and girl names (mainly how you think they are pronounced upon reading them and how they sound to a non-turkish ear)?

We have lived in UK our entire lives and are from a Turkish background and have a son with a Turkish name. Would greatly appreciate any feedback! I like names with e’s and r’s as you can probably tell :-)

Boy names:

Reyan / Reyyan
Evren
Kerem
Reis

Girl names:

Meryem
Serenay
Esra
Serin
Dilara

Thank you! 🙏🏻

Oh and also Ayla for a girl, old Turkish name but I think very adaptable for the UK

Ayla is cute but I am avoiding A names, they are very popular among Turkish parents at the moment so all the A names are morphing into one for me!

There have been a few posts comparing Serin to the gas Sarin which is starting to put me off if it is something that springs to mind when the name is on paper even though it sounds different when pronounced 😱

I taught a girl with Turkish heritage called Beyhan. She was a great kid and always liked the name since. Though saying that, I’ve not come across another Beyhan

Don't be put off OP. I think Serin is a really lovely name and doesn't make me think of sarin at all. DD had a friend at primary school called Serin.

I agree, I wouldn’t be put off by mentions of Sarin, it wouldn’t even have occurred to me.

The name Seren has been popular on the MN baby name threads for ages without anyone mentioned Sarin.
