Being honest , I think oooo-aarrrr....

Heffa · 14/05/2008 17:46

Wilf is a lovely name, it was one of my possibilities but DH didn't think it went well with our surname.

BigBadMouse - I am in Okie Only for the last four weeks or so though! My family have all moved up around here too, although they're slightly further north. Exeter feels so big and metropolitan now, especially with the new shopping centre bit.

laidbackinengland · 14/05/2008 17:49

Heffa - I get all excited about going to Barnstaple !

savoycabbage · 14/05/2008 17:50

Beards

Beanie - sorry for hijacking your thread - call your baby Jethro adn then move to Devon - you'd be welcomed with open arms here .

Heffa · 14/05/2008 17:51

hehe, Barnstaple was my birthday treat this year! I like it as a town, but was surprised how big it is!

laidbackinengland · 14/05/2008 17:51

All those loud noises and cars ...

Heffa · 14/05/2008 17:57

Yes! Round here people still come into town in a horse-drawn carriage (well, one lady anyway!). Where I grew up was a lovely little village but that's where the new town is being built which is why we all got out. Especially with the airport expanding.

It seems that the name Jethro is a bit more acceptable down here

Amandella · 14/05/2008 18:20

Horrible name - sorry. Reminds me of the band Jethro Tull - loads of hair and a bit grubby!!

VoluptuaGoodshag · 14/05/2008 18:22

Was the alter ego of my ex-husband when he had too much to drink. Not a pleasant guy so I have to say no.

pointydog · 14/05/2008 18:23

My friend's brother has just named his baby Jethro and the surname is Toal. Jethro Toal. No kidding.

pointydog · 14/05/2008 18:24

Agricultural revolution an all that. Seed planting machines.

bubblagirl · 14/05/2008 18:25

spicemonster · 14/05/2008 18:27

It makes me think of Jethro Tull but it won't by the time your DS is grown up. I like it

RainyWednesday · 14/05/2008 18:36

AHLH · 14/05/2008 21:08

Old hippy standing on one leg playing the flute!

I think Jethro is a fab name. Biblical and traditional in the same genre as Noah, Isaac and Josiah but unusual. Am I really the only one for whom the popular culture references of Jethro Tull grunge and the yokel okel Hillbillies has passed me by? Do you think it will ever be popular again? I am surprised if it doesn't catch on one day as the J names are so popular for boys. Do you think if I name my son Jethro I am am condeming him to hippy associations for eternity?

We are hoping to call our son Jethro James William so he has common names to fall back on. Your thoughts are welcome!
