Please help me find a perfect girl name

Hi :)

So I already have a Samuel, Rose and Elisabeth.

I'm currently 13 weeks pregnant.

They told me at the hospital that it's too early to tell gender, but I saw nothing between the legs on a scan and a nub analysis on the Internet says that it's 80 % a girl.

So based on the names of my existing children, which name would you recommend?

I used to like Florence, but not so much anymore.

Thank you :)

Eleanor nn Nell or Lena? Close to Helen (can’t believe there’s another baby Helen, I’ve never met one! Maybe it’s having a resurgence!) and goes with the other names.

Over the weekend I realised I really like the name Helen.

It's classic, elegant, feminine and not too common nowadays.

Would also fit with my other children's names.

But my husband is dead set against it because our next door neighbours infant daughter has that name.

I told him that it doesn't matter as we're not friends with them anyway and only exchange words every few months, but he won't budge. :(

Helen is a great name. It was one of the names I suggested above alongside Helena. Would he agree to that instead. It's also classic, elegant and feminine but just slightly different to your neighbour's baby's name.

He also doesn't agree to Helena.

I think it's ridiculous not to choose a name because of a neighbour that you only say hi to in passing.

Even if my best friend already had a child with the name I like, it wouldn't necessarily stop me from using the same name (although I would mention it first in order not to hurt feelings).

Ellen? A bit like Helen but with a cooler vibe. I know someone with DCs Samuel, Elizabeth and Ellen

KatyaKabanova · 07/04/2025 11:09

Same initial as Elizabeth.
Keep persuading DH to use Helen.
Or Helena?

MostlyGhostly · 07/04/2025 11:12

Or Eve, Neve, Sophia, Sadie, Anna, Louisa

rainingsnoring · 07/04/2025 11:22

I agree that it's a silly reason not to use a name, assuming that he really likes the name.

How about Ellen ?

if it helps, we have 2 Madeleines on our very small street and no one bats an eyelid

Not a fan of Helen, what about Haidee, Hazel, Heather?

We're both leaning towards Mathilda now.

What does everyone think about this name?

Does it go well with my other children's names?

Samuel, Rose, Elisabeth and Mathilda?

xx

Mathilda is perfect 😁 Although I’d go for the Matilda spelling as it’s the more commonly used one - that way she won’t always have to say “Mathilda with an h”.

Energe · 24/04/2025 16:39

Is it pronounced Math il dah?

DuchessOfNarcissex · 24/04/2025 19:34

Like Matilda but with an European accent of your choice.

Matilda is a beautiful name. In fact it’s perfect.
