Poppy is OK.

Dd was very nearly a Billie 21 years ago however we changed our mind. Billie is becoming quite popular this year, I've heard of at least 4 in the last 12 months.

@Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice Poppy might be a socialite whereas Billie is a boy's name feminised?

RachelLikesTea · 05/03/2025 18:51

That’s a tough one! Both great names but very different preconceptions.

I like both but prefer Billie. I like girls names that can also be boys names. My sons have a female friend called Charlie and she is fabulous. I like the idea of Billie for a teenage girl because it’s cool.

Am I the only one who read this 3 times and can't make sense of it?

I was responding to a pp. Usually on baby name threads any names ending in ‘ie’ get slammed for not being ‘classy’.

Are you okay now?

LindaLeggings · 05/03/2025 19:27

Poppy.

I don't dislike Billie but I really can't being called Billie as a 40 odd year old woman.

PurpleChrayn · 05/03/2025 21:16

Billie.

Poppy is unbearable.

You said 'I disagree' to the person who said Billie isn't classy, then went on to say exactly the same thing yourself.

Billie especially with the ie isn’t in the slightest bit ‘classy’.

Are YOU ok?

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 06/03/2025 07:32

@Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice oh! Thank you. So I did. Maybe I shouldn’t read and cook at the same time, thank you for correcting me so kindly.

Emanwenym · 06/03/2025 08:04

@LindaLeggings , Billie Jean King, Billie Holliday, Billie Whitelaw...
Billie Piper is 42.

Edited

I know there are women called Billie although Billie Holiday and Billie Piper were born Eleanora and Leian. I just can't imagine me now saying my name is Billie.

Zeldasie · 06/03/2025 10:34

Poppy is infantile, like Poppet. It's also too close to Poopy.

I'd choose Billie

mrssunshinexxx · 06/03/2025 10:35

Billie, way cooler
Have you considered Stevie ?

Namesheardinthewild · 08/03/2025 00:10

I like Billie - and it was on my list - but it’s become sooooo popular for babies/toddlers where I am 😭

MariaMeringue · 08/03/2025 01:49

I like both, but I would choose Poppy because my DD is called Poppy :) She's eighteen now and has always been very happy with her name.

RogueFemale · 09/03/2025 23:05

Both awful.

NewMarmiteJar · 10/03/2025 00:15

Poppy

BettyBardMacDonald · 10/03/2025 01:36

Grim.

mathanxiety · 10/03/2025 01:38

Billie.
A very cool Jazz Age name.

Poppy is very twee.

Zeldasie · 10/03/2025 14:47

I actually don't like either of them. Both too twee and cutesy.

TheaBrandt1 · 10/03/2025 14:49

They are both quite child like. The name needs to see them through a lifetime. Wouldn’t choose either personally

Firebird83 · 10/03/2025 22:42

Don’t like either. Billie if I had to choose.

Emanwenym · 11/03/2025 07:42

@TheaBrandt1 , I know a Poppy and a Billie. Both were adults when I first met them. I didn't think the names were childish.

RenaissanceBaby · 11/03/2025 07:46

Would Billie be a nickname for a traditional name, or just as it is? I like it .

There’s approximately 71,238 Poppies at my kid’s school. It’s ridiculously overdone, pretty bland and just meh. I’d go Billie.
