Poppy

Billie makes me think Billie Eilish

I'm obviously getting old as my only thought was Piper!

I think Poppy is much more common, I've not come across a Billie though.

Emanwenym · 05/03/2025 09:51

My thought was Holliday. Grin@Invisablepanic

Poppy Willow would be nice to kind of factor in Billie.

ThePinkPowerRangers · 05/03/2025 10:24

Not a fan of Billie particularly but Poppy is just so everywhere and they’re all Poppy Rose/Grace/May which makes it very dull.

Emanwenym · 05/03/2025 10:44

Poppy Willow sounds and looks lovely but is ridiculous.

Boppy 6/10

Billie 100%. Poppy is overused (where I am anyway) and I've never met a Poppy I've warmed to.

LonelyMom123 · 05/03/2025 11:26

Billie

Emanwenym · 05/03/2025 11:30

Polly is lovely.

I don't like poppy. It's an eternally babyish name and is more like a sound than a name. Billie is a bit 80/90s. If you go for poppy, I'd make it a nickname for something like Philippa so she can be a grown up at some point.

Billie is babyish, too.

Wilhelmina nn Billie is ok.

TheFlyingHorse · 05/03/2025 11:42

Poppy is very twee, I can't see the appeal at all. Billie is much better for an older girl or woman.

Agree. I don't like Billie much, but it's way better than Poppy.

shoopshoopdedoo · 05/03/2025 12:05

Billie

RuthW · 05/03/2025 12:16

Poppy.

Billie is a shortening

Sandysandwich · 05/03/2025 15:50

Billie,
Mostly because I would rather be called Billie than Poppy.
Billie has more of a universal feel. For instance Billie Eilish and Billie Piper's names both suit them and they seem very different, but to me Poppy just feels girly and a bit posh.

But also I keep mistyping Poppy as Poopy and that feels unfortunate.

Playmobil4Eva · 05/03/2025 15:52

Billie

Billie, Poppy Is fine but I think it's a bit dated, the Poppy's I know are older teenagers alongside the Lilly"s

All areas are different. I know of no children called Poppy over the age of 7, but it's having a bit of a moment around me right now. I know quite a few under 7s with this name, especially under 3s. So to me, it doesn't feel dated at all.

OP, I much prefer Poppy. I'm not a fan of unisex names.

whatsthatBout · 05/03/2025 18:11

Poppy is nice but does sound a bit babyish to me. It’s also too much of a stretch to make it a nickname for anything. Philippa or Penelope ‘nn Poppy’ just doesn’t work.

I can’t decide how I feel about Billie! It’s quite sweet but maybe a bit boyish.

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 05/03/2025 18:21

A name is for life - I can't picture either of these sitting well on a cranky menopausal woman.

Maybe pick something a bit less cutesy and use a nickname when she's little?

dontgoaskingme · 05/03/2025 18:24

Love Billie for a girl.
Agree with pp have never met an non annoying Poppy, it's a babyish name

Poppy

Billie makes me think Billie Eilish

Makes me think William ('Billy') Bremner

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 05/03/2025 18:28

Poppy is classy, Billie isn’t

I completely disagree! Billie especially with the ie isn’t in the slightest bit ‘classy’.

Am I the only one who read this 3 times and can't make sense of it?

LOVE Billie <3
