What do you think of the girl's name Kerensa/Kerenza (can't decide on the spelling)? I know this is a Cornish name (meaning - love) but was wondering if it was still popular in Cornwall or is it considered old fashioned/common?
It will be either this or Katharine, I just can't decide.

Katharine is my real name, with the K and the A!

WanderingTrolley · 11/05/2008 19:37

Nice unusual name, Kerensa/za.

V few Katharines around my way these days, shame, tis nice name.

I like them all, which is no help, sorry!

leoemma · 11/05/2008 19:38

Im a catherine, agree with wandering I only know of 4 others!

theangelshavethephonebox · 11/05/2008 19:40

another one here, mine is spelt Katherine though!

fishie · 11/05/2008 19:40

i'm a katharine with that spelling and have spent my entire life correcting it. i also think it is rather dull (sorry noonoo)

theangelshavethephonebox · 11/05/2008 19:43

never heard Kerenza before but I do like it

dizzydixies · 11/05/2008 19:44

I grew up as Kate / Katie, but reverted back to Katharine when I grew up!

tribpot · 11/05/2008 19:50

My sis is a Katharine, I'm sure it must be a pain with the more unusual spelling but hey ho - such is life!

Carenza I know from Time Team early days, one of their top archeologists was Carenza Lewis. Lovely name and gorgeous lady.

WigWamBam · 11/05/2008 19:52

I quite like Carenza with a C but not keen on the spellings you list. Reminds me of the archaeologist Carenza Lewis from Time Team ... which may not be quite the image you're looking for!

kitson08 · 11/05/2008 19:53

Katherine

AbbeyA · 11/05/2008 19:53

Katherine but with the e not the a.

throckenholt · 11/05/2008 19:55

I think both are nice - Karenza more unusual (the only one I know of it the archaeologist).

lizzielu · 11/05/2008 19:55

Califrau, is it pronounced the same as the name (I don't know Italian)? This has given me something to think about!!

I was thinking of Katharine with a K just in case we end up shortening it to Katie. But we probably won't as we named DD1 Elizabeth with the intention of shortening it to Libby but we just got used to calling her the full name Elizabeth and never did shorten it.
In my book of Celtic names Karensa/za is spelt with K - haven't seen it listed with a C before, just as well because of the Italian meaning.

Katherine

fishie · 11/05/2008 20:13

i am a kath which adds to the general dullness. there is something very sturdy about that name.

and it it quite hard to write so my signature is irritating to do.

so many things to think about in names

strawberryfields · 11/05/2008 20:18

Katharine, defo.
