What do you think of the girl's name Kerensa/Kerenza (can't decide on the spelling)? I know this is a Cornish name (meaning - love) but was wondering if it was still popular in Cornwall or is it considered old fashioned/common?
It will be either this or Katharine, I just can't decide.

How about Katinka? (Russian diminutive of Katherine)

DiscoDizzy · 11/05/2008 20:22

Katherine

what's your surname like lizzielu - katharine is quite a long name, will it balance ok?

and are you already considering diminutives, if so then kitty is lovely. not kath pls. or kathy (horrors). kate or katie or even better katy are allowed.

i do think if it is going to be with a k then should be katharine, catherine for a c.

KateF · 11/05/2008 20:33

Katharine goes well with your other daughter's name, but I would think that as I am Catherine Elizabeth

JRocks · 11/05/2008 20:35

I have met a few Kerensas (not surprising in Cornwall) but haven't heard of anyone naming a baby that for a while.. It usually gets shortened to Renz round these parts - make of that what you will..

mosschops30 · 11/05/2008 20:38

Katharine, mine is spelt the same too

Spidermama · 11/05/2008 20:39

Really nice name Kerensa. I've never heard it before. Lovely.

jivegirl · 11/05/2008 20:41

I went to school with a Karenza (in Cornwall!) She was beautiful and very sophisticated!

yogabird · 11/05/2008 20:56

Katharine

Nancy66 · 11/05/2008 23:45

Katharine most definitely. The others sound like made up chav names...I know they're not but, I'm afraid, that's what they sound like.

Ellbell · 11/05/2008 23:57

I like Kerensa, but I'm Cornish, so recognise it as a definitely-not-made-up name. I wouldn't use it, though, because of the Italian meaning, but I am unusual in being a Cornishwoman who uses Italian on a daily basis!

squanderedzeitgeist · 12/05/2008 02:24

Not madly keen on any...Katharine is a good solid name but not particularly thrilling. However, inifinitely preferable to a made-up name. Kerenza does sound like Carenza ( lacking or missing something/ deficiency) in Italian but it would sound a little more interesting -if you have Cornish roots.

LookattheLottie · 12/05/2008 02:47

I went to school with a girl called Karenza. Took me about 3 months after starting there to actually remember her name though!
I'd never heard it before and kept forgetting lol!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 12/05/2008 08:38

I'm Katherine, not shortened. Karenza is a nice name and more unusual than Katherine, but I like them both!

Elkat · 12/05/2008 16:04

Katherine. I have a Katherine, and don't know of any other children katherines (iyswim). I like the fact that there are loads of pet names you can use with it. I think it is solid and classy. Only thing to consider is the spelling, we went for Katherine (with the e) because there seemed to be more merchandise for Katherine with the e as opposed to the a. It might not bother you, but it bothered me as a child, so I wanted to use the traditional spelling (which according to most books is with the e, although I have read others that do specify the a!).
HTH

bluenosesaint · 12/05/2008 22:53

I like Katherine (Kitty or Kate not Kath) or Catherine (cate). Although i do like Kerensa too. Not keen on it with a 'z' for some reason ...

Lovely names.

jasper · 12/05/2008 23:23

first two sound like Kerosene
