we can't decide on:

Sebestian (seb)
Oswald (Ozzy)

I realise they are quite strange names but don't want anything ordinary.

Any thoughts?

Sebastian (or Anton). I too immediately think of Oswald Mosley.

DumbledoresGirl · 07/05/2008 17:49

Sebastian is a fantastic name! One of my favourites.

Oswald just makes me think of Oswald Mosley and even without that connection, is, IMO, an ugly name.

Anton is nice too. So what if he gets called Ant? Nothing wrong with that as a nickname either.

LyraSilvertongue · 07/05/2008 17:49

Oswald is awful, sorry.

janeite · 07/05/2008 17:50

Sebastian - I really, really don't like Oswald (Moseley) or Ozzy - but I used to have a budgie named that so maybe am judging a bit. Sebastian = good, Brideshead = good - what's not to like?!

janeite · 07/05/2008 17:50

Not Seb though - just Sebastian.

Quattrocento · 07/05/2008 17:52

Ozzy is ugh

Blandmum · 07/05/2008 17:54

Not Oswald.....Lee harvey and the JFK assassination and Oswald Mosley and fascism

oiFoiF · 07/05/2008 17:55

neither

LynetteScavo · 07/05/2008 18:21

watching, if you ask for an opinion on an unusual, or strange names...not many people will say they like it. If lots of people liked it, it wouldn't be unusual, because they'd all be using it.

Take a look at the thread about the name James. James is a very popular name, and funnily enough, lots of people say they like it.

jk1 · 07/05/2008 19:29

Oswald is a bit who killed JFK but I think you will find Sebastian is on the rise I know of 4 in the last year.

So if you want different Oswald is probably a bit safer.

PortBlacksandResident · 07/05/2008 19:34

I immediately thought of Saint Oswald (Celtic Saint) - hanged at Oswestry (Oswald's tree) - head taken to London, may have carried on talking not sure.

I like the name Oswald!

puffling · 07/05/2008 19:37

No Sebastian's too 'ott.'
I like Oswald. I'd not thought of it before. Much nobler than Sebastian.

minster · 07/05/2008 19:54

Sebastian is far better I think the fascist connotions of Oswald are too strong for it to be useable.

suedonim · 07/05/2008 19:56

Oswald Mosely. No thanks. Sebastian is lovely.

Hulababy · 07/05/2008 19:58

Not keen on Oswald, sorry. Sebastian is much better.

Janni · 07/05/2008 20:00

Sebastien.

The only Oswald people will have heard of is Mosley.

Sebastian is enjoying a resurgence & imo is lovely.

No, to Oswald because of its infamous connotations.

scottishmummy · 07/05/2008 20:15

oswald = Mosley - sorry. bit like adolf= hitler. Sorry

BigBadMouse · 07/05/2008 20:19

surely Oswald Osbourne cancels Mosely out?

I like Sebastian though.

Pinkchampagne · 07/05/2008 20:20

Sebastian. Don't like Oswald, I'm afraid.

LaDiDaDi · 07/05/2008 20:21

Not Oswald, it makes me think of Oswald Moseley too.

Sebastian's fine.

ChippyMinton · 07/05/2008 20:24

Sebastian - strange? I think not!
Ordinary? I think not!
But getting far to popular. I don't think anyone else should use it.

Oswald - now that is strange.

PuppyMonkey · 07/05/2008 20:35

Christ, Oswald is a blardy HORRIBLE name. Sorry. So is Oz.
Sebastian is gorgeous but don't shorten to Seb, what a waste of a good name...
