Middle name for Opal?

xRobin · 31/01/2025 09:25

Hi all,

We’re choosing the name Opal for our little girl, we love the name.
However, cannot for the life of me find a middle name that I love. DP says all my suggestions are “nice” but I want one that I just know is right.
We’ve gone through all family members and can’t find a name there that we love.

Any suggestions please?
Surname is one syllable.

Fruit?

Hahaha I came here to say this!

Reluctantnurse · 31/01/2025 10:33

I don’t think you have anything to worry about with regards to Opal Fruits. I’m 34 and only know them as Starbursts. Anyone under 60 will probably have adapted to the new name!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 31/01/2025 10:34

My modern thought was that it reminds me of that hair treatment....what's it called?
........

Olaplex

I love the name Opal. I agree with pp about it not mattering about the flow of a name as basically no one apart from new parents use whole names. As long as it doesn't sound silly or make a dumb set of initials just choose the name you like the most. You aren't a marketing executive trying to make a fancy brand.
I also like it when names sound a bit random.

My first thought also! (Sorry op)

Are you really 100% set on this name?

Do you think your little girl will thank you for naming her Opal?

Sorry, not trying to be rude @xRobin it's just not a great name. No-one will think of the pretty gemstone, all they will think of is opal fruits. And... well, I just wouldn't call her this. Sorry. JMO.

I don't think anyone under the age of 30 has even heard of opal fruits...

Yeah same, I’m 32 and so far it’s only those around my parents age that are making the connection.
As a name itself, it’s a lovely name so I’m happy with that. x

Agree I'm 32 and don't know what Opal fruits are...those who do are showing their age 🤣

Thank you! Before we knew she was a girl we’d picked our boys full name but the initials spelt SAD 😂 x

They really haven’t.
I’m 32 and I was 6 when they rebranded to Starburst.
That’s why I’m not concerned with the connection 😂 plus, it’s not a negative connection should anybody older than me point it out x

The spiritual property of Opal gemstones is emotional healing.

Other healing names include
Althea
Elethea
Meditrina

Or names that mean “Light” would have a nice joint meaning
Aurora
Helena
Eleanor

Lovely name OP! As for the Opal Fruit connection... I only vaguely remember these and I'm 38! No one younger than 30 is going to have any idea, particularly not peers of your child's generation! I can't add any middle names to the pot as my suggestions have already been said, but my favourites would be Jade and Rae as incidentally they're the two main contenders for my impending daughter's middle name as well 😀

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/01/2025 12:48

Opal Sidney is gorgeous!

I was recently hospital bed neighbours with a twenty something Sidney. She very beachy cool.

Meraleine · 31/01/2025 12:50

I’m in my 40s and all I’d think of is opal fruit and have a little giggle to myself at the weird name. People will always tell you they like the name to your face because otherwise it’s very awkward when you name the child the name you’ve indicated you think is ridiculous.

I don't think they go together.

I think Opal Aurora D... would be lovely.

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 31/01/2025 12:52

I’m late 40’s and obviously knew of opal fruits but I wouldn’t make that connection because I’m not an arsehole. An opal is a beautiful gem stone.
