Nothing at all Mrs Ruffalo. The problem (for me) would be if you were not the kaftan wearing type but everyone assumed that you were on the basis of your child's name.

MamaG · 06/05/2008 11:44

TBH, I do choose names based on how it would sound in the boardroom! You have to consider everything when choosing a name.

As someone with a slightly porny surname I have to be VERY careful

mrsruffallo · 06/05/2008 11:48

I guess some of us have more ambition for our kids

fishie · 06/05/2008 11:49

i think autumn sounds perfectly fine for boardroom. it is sort of solemn and stately.

however i do think that anyone called this shoudl be born between sept and nov.

MamaG · 06/05/2008 11:49

I t hink you have to cover everything

"this is Captain Autumn Smith speaking..."

Notquitegrownup · 06/05/2008 11:49

I like Eden and Autumn too, but am wondering about calling a girl born in summer, Autumn.

Is she/are you going to get fed up with everyone asking her if she was born in autumn as the first question? If not, sounds fine to me - although slightly sad/pensive autumn being the beginning of the end of the year and all that . . .

Notquitegrownup · 06/05/2008 11:51

and number one in the charts this week, up ten places, its Autumn Smith-Cooper

OrmIrian · 06/05/2008 11:51

I like it. But I have latent hippy tendencies.

PuppyMonkey · 06/05/2008 11:52

TBh, Autumn just sounds like you're trying too hard to be cool. It's naff.

squilly · 06/05/2008 11:54

I'm not fond of Autumn or reasons given by Puppymonkey...but Eden's lovely...and I'd never heard it before.

Notquitegrownup · 06/05/2008 11:54

Good mor-ning, Miss Autumn . . .

MrsBadger · 06/05/2008 11:54

not just the boardroom

this is the famous 'playroom, bedroom, boardroom' test

  • 'Autumn, come on, we're going on the slides!' 'Autumn, come in for your tea THIS MINUTE'
  • 'Oh Autumn... oh... oh, Autumn that feels so good...'
  • 'And our next speaker will be Autumn Foster to give us a rundown of the company's ethical management strategy over the next five years'
chisigirl · 06/05/2008 11:56

I really like it!

flowerybeanbag · 06/05/2008 11:58

We use the less famous 'pop star/newsreader' test, I'd say Autumn would be good for popstar, maybe less so for a newsreader?

mrsruffallo · 06/05/2008 11:58

I quite like it now

ninedragons · 06/05/2008 12:01

Stripper, sorry.

Enid · 06/05/2008 12:03

I dont like it

Thankyouandgoodnight · 06/05/2008 13:54

I thought the name Clover was a bit twee / margarine / cow like but DH knows a Clover in his non twee-like work and it does seem quite cool as a result. I wonder if Autumn / Eden etc would be similar

I met an Autumn once. She had red hair so I thought it kind of suited her but it isn't a name I would choose myself.

Eden is horrible. Sorry.

popmum · 06/05/2008 14:39

Isn't autumn the name of a girl princess annes son is marrying this year (a canadian I think).

ah yes, here

DaisySteiner · 06/05/2008 14:41

There was a girl at my secondary school called Autumn. I'm afraid she was rather badly teased (not by me, I hasten to add)

DUSTIN · 06/05/2008 14:43

I used to have a maths teacher called Autumn Daws and she had red hair also. I quite like the name.

SniffyHock · 06/05/2008 14:43

I knew a male Eden who always said it would be a good girls name. I wanted to use it for DD but for the fact that DS is Edward!! If you think it's too grown up you can always call her Edie which is lovely.

Don't mind Autumn but it really needs to be given to someone actually born in the Autumn.

chisigirl · 06/05/2008 14:50

I only know one Eden, but he's a boy....
